We all know there are no jobs, but when the shortage does happen, how the hell can this industry attract young blood. Why would anyone want to do this job, shocking wages, stupidly long hours, 9 :open_mouth: hours off between shifts, [zb] in the traffic room. The biggest problem with this job is we are doing nearly double the hours of everybody else for the same money…

attracting young blood isn’t a problem it’s getting a company to accept you can drive without having the magic two years experiance, you know the one night when you become employable overnight :unamused: i should know i’m one of them.

There are many companies who do take on new drivers. Just don’t join the gravy train expecting work to fall at your feet. You have to go out there and hunt it down.

I didn’t say I wasn’t looking for a job in fact ive proberly visited, emailed, applied, researched well over 80 - 100 companies local and not so in the last 3 weeks and some positive some not so positive, I have full time decent class 2 job at the moment i have joined a agency for weekend work to explore that avenue to get a foot in the door somewhere.

It’s early days but as i have stated in other threads it IS hard but not impossible, and i feel sooner or later i will achive this, I have alot of advice from alot of members on this forum and from collegues ect and tip off’s from other members on TNUK.

I understand where you are comming from and when i decided to upgrade my licence i also understood that work would not be thrown at me, but there is deffinatly a barrier with the “two year” acceptance i can understand wanting to more experianced drivers by all means but someone who hasn’t used there C+E for two years is in a better position than me at the moment :exclamation:

Hi Simon, I have been driving class 1 for only 3 years and I have never had a problem with the 2 year rule. I did have about 3-4 no’s but it never stopped me being out of work. Good luck, where are you in the country?

driver shortage - try lower seats, longer pedals end of problem.
i also think there are so many driver jobs because multiply them by 4 ,sainsborskis=dhl=milestone=crest plus=1 job ,maybe,if three of the aforementioned were removed, then the surplus supply of cash would and should go to drivers’also anyone considering a career as an hgv(lgv)driver ,it wont cost you £3000.go to eastern europe, bung the examiner £50, voila.obviously from what ive seen, you can pick up tour nonexistent driving skills at a supermarket, milestone will even bring you over in there driver express bus, guaranteed work for 3 months merry xmas
