smart arse
gav 20 years ago a women in haulage was an execption to the rule as it was then considered that a woman could not do the job and you would then be expected to work harder run further etc than the next man just get accepted or atleast be considered on the same level where as now a women in haulage to be truthful is not that special ( Im not taking anything away sara here) there is one women on this forum that has more experience in haulage than lucy and ladytrucker put together, those that know her will know who im on about and also started around the same time as pat its due to these women and women like them that today women are a norm rather than an execption a good looking women will always get attention wherther she is in welding gear or in a truck or an office.
Its a public perception that trucks are difficult to drive sara has made some headlines for getting an hgv because the public think that women are an exeption in this industry hope as sara says her headline may give other women the thought of getting in a truck this is always good thing for the industry i think
to anyone starting off in this inustry you are at the begining of long and sometimes very steep learning curve everyday you will learn something new enjoy it
I think also what has brought/allowed more women into the industry is technology too.
I mean 30 years ago, with no Power steering, no air asistance for clutch and brakes as well as having to double declutch… the list goes on. My point is at one point all truck drivers were big and butch regardless of gender just because they had to be in order to control the vehicles.
Now with most trucks the controls are lighter and easier to operate than many cars.
Now with out taking anything away from the ‘pioneers’ i think even without them we would still see women in trucks now. there has always been a large number of female bus drivers and the transition isnt that great. Trucks always become easier to drive as technology moves on, and that technology had nothing to do with women being in the industry.
There is a wider change in culture too, where women have taken on traditionaly male roles in all types of industry, and even men taken on female roles (nursing for example).
If i’m in a yard and someone asks me to help them out with a coupling, box leg etc i will, dont care whether they’re male, female, english or polish.
Same as if i ask someone for help i dont expect a response like “i’ve been around longer than you, ■■■■ off and learn for yourself”
thats the sort of response i was going to right dennis, but i couldnt be bothered to type that much,so cheers for doing it for me

I would think there is many an 80yr women who would take issue with you here - what about in the war years women were driving vehicles then that many of us now would struggle to operate, I doubt if they were getting write ups in the sun and local rags. Female truckers - regardless of size or looks are nothing new, Girlie has stated in her first posts she was doing the publicity thing to encourage more women into the industry, yet later on she admitted she is doing the publicity to make money out of it - Now I really don’t give a hoot what her reasons are, but I do take issue with all this school girl fluttering of eyelashes and giggling lark. There are plenty of men and women who have worked bloody hard to get where they are in their driving carreers, this type of thing just be-littles all their efforts if you ask me.

But why does it belittle it? You think that holding an HGV licence is somehow a manly thing to do and ‘girls’ having the same belittles you?
What you’re saying is if Sara was a tattooed cigar smoking bruiser of a girl you wouldnt have a problem.

Where have I said or even hinted at that?? Girlie is, by her own admission, trying to progress on the ladder by using her looks etc rather then working her way like everyone else. There will no doubt be companies that see her in the press and offer her a job on the hope that they can get some free publicity out of it, but then there are others who have the same amount or more expierence that are struggling to get a start. All she is doing is reverse sexism, now don’t tell me that is good for equality!!!
What you’re saying is if Sara was a tattooed cigar smoking bruiser of a girl you wouldnt have a problem.
Again, where have I said or even hinted at that!!! I am all for equality and do not see anything different between men or women (in the work place), you can either do a job or you can’t, simple. Now Girlie says she can do it, and I have no reason to doubt that she can, so why not get on with it and stop all this “Look at me, aren’t I great” stuff. If she wants adulation then she only needs to look on her own website, not post on here about how good she is, and isn’t it wonderful that someone so small and pretty can drive such a big truck all be her little lonsome, and what makes it worst is those of you living in the past lapping it up like dogs with 2 dicks - sad, very, very sad.
is it me or is this thread getting a little boring or are we just argueing against each other
Nice to have a new lady trucker on site. Welcome Girlie.
I was in Northampton and I read the article (Nothing much else to read in that neck of the woods) and being a trappy cow I contacted the editor to tell him that in my opinion 5ft 4" was tall as I am only barely 5ft.
On the subject of men/lady truckers, I have written an article for Truckstop news about this, which is a subject I feel very strongly about.
You can read it here
truckstopnews.co.uk/issues.a … 40&Page=19
No letting the side down ladies!! I have NEVER gone all girlie and if I want help I just ask.
Trouble is driving the things are so easy a lot of ladies forget there is the other side to trucking - like loading and unloading. Hooking up trailers and dropping the things. The driving down the motorway, music playing, windows down and hair flying is the easy bit!!
Brilliant thread is this ! haven’t laughed so much for ages …
But why do I keep getting visions of RobK in drag ?
An excellent article, and one which raises many of the points I have been trying to make - in my own way.
Tagoat:
But why do I keep getting visions of RobK in drag ?![]()
has to be lol
i think the problem is when sara started trying to flutter her eyelashes at everybody trying to get them onside.
if she was more honest saying did struggle but was getting the better of it she would have been better put across.
i think all this “he he” crap has made her look immature.
she is joining an industry that is hard for women as it really is a mans job. dont get me wrong women can do the job but it is hard work roping and sheeting pulling pins trying to undo curtains and then do them back up again in gale force winds. i mean i wouldnt try and do a typing job or even try and be a secetatary but that is mainley a womens job ( but i do have have a mate who does it and he is definatley a fella.)
im not trying to be sexist at just saying in this country there is jobs that are prodomently male jobs and and jobs that are prodomantley female jobs.
and i think this thread is very tiresome as well.

No shes not, by her own admission shes using her age, size, looks, girlieness,to engourage OTHERS to progress into transport,i cant remember reading anything like,“i am going to smarm my way to the top by acting girlie”
There will no doubt be companies that see her in the press and offer her a job on the hope that they can get some free publicity out of it
well if that was the case, they wont be in business very long, so its a case of,she cant drive for toffee, but hey she looks good behind the wheel, yeah look real good when they side swipe a car cus they cant actually drive,i dont know of any company that would take a driver on purely for looks
i think all this “he he” crap has made her look immature
its called being cheerie, its what us youth of today do, heehee

Girlie_trucker:
im not getting much money from media… but it could lead to something else.Who knows who might be reading the paper? They could open the paper and say “wow we want her to work for us!”
Looks that way to me!!!

I don’t believe you are actually that naive to think that - but I may be wrong!!!
It amazes me how some people are going down the "attention seeking route " to have a little dig ,but at the same time in doing so have let the thread evolve into 9 pages .
I think it has served it’s purpose well …Wouldn’t you think ?

You said that by saying;
but I do take issue with all this school girl fluttering of eyelashes and giggling lark
So therefore you woudn’t take an issue if she was acting butch!

What I replied with came nothing close to the comments about being butch etc. What your basically saying is that if a female is not small and demure then she must be big and butch - what a black and white world you live in!!!
man its gonna take me a long time to reply to all this!!.. i have to get up for work early… and im very tired… but im feeling a lot happier that its sorta split now… i dont just have everyone being horrid to me!
but i was to stress… im not trying to get attention or money… thats not my main goal anyway…
Im not trying to prove anything to you guys… all tho it might seem like it whern i keep replying… but alot of you really have got me all wrong!
Most people out there do not realise that young little girls can be lorry drivers!
and also… me being the way i am does not get me special treatment… infact sometimes i get treated worse! people that think i shouldnt be doing the job… and try make it even harder… like “yeah lets give her the broken pallt truck in front of the boss… and laugh… then get the boss to have a go at her about not being strong enough for the job!!!” grrrrr!
stuff like that happens all the time… and also… i dont have a lot of choice in the jobs that i do.,… i just do the ones that i really am capable of doing. i know my limits and that some jobs are just too hard… but then there are some that are fine and i can do every aspect. i mean i dont want to be delivering drums of liquid then have to ask someone else to unload. (i delievered lightbulbs once… that was great! HEHE!!! (god i still cant believe yo have an issue with the hehe’s!! mentalists!)
so if i can find a way to make it easier for me to get a job… when most places would rather employ and middle ages reliable fit male… then i think thats fair if i try and make it easier for myself tp get a job!
anyway… yeah all i wanna do is let people know that THEY TOO could be a lorry driver… and if i happen to be able to make some money out of it… what on earth is wrong with that■■?
Im in a local paper again if anyone wants to see? just email me and ill send it. i only have a scanned pic of it.
Thank you and goodnight
