What are the usual ways into these types of driving jobs (Class 1)? I don’t tend to see them advertising a lot but there are plenty of rdc’s in the Yorkshire area. I’m currently working full time on class 1 and earning decent money which is great for now but the hours are maxed out a lot and I’m under the impression that working on supermarkets tend to be better for home life. Also I’ve heard that some do set annual salaries of £29,000 PA which is less than I’m on now but would work if my hours where lower say 60 PW max. Any advice?
Check their websites, i work for Asda and if they were looking for drivers it would be advertised on their own website and that’s how you would apply.
Most of them use Agency Drivers quite a lot and when jobs become available they are quite likely to be offered to them as they have some prior knowledge of their attitude and capabilities
As previous posts have said agency is usually the way in. I did 7 months before any jobs came up and then it was just a formality because they are aware of your abilities and attitude etc. before they set you on.
I’ve been here 7 years and it beats working for a living! 45 hours a week certainly beats living in a truck.

I dont think he wants to go from yorkshire to the london area for day/night work would think its a wee bit far.
Having done a few round my way, one permanent the rest agency, the only one I’d want is Sainsburys at an ambient only depot. Rye Park was ace. Skeleton crews on weekends, so none of that 7 weekends on the bounce bs like Tesco do. Safeway used to be a doddle, I was on Monday to Friday nights, and if you made Friday an 8 and the gate shift, it felt like you had 3 days off a week. Then Morrison took over and the rest is history. And the reason tesco can’t get enough bods at Dagenham is because when it was in Harlow, it was £50k a year. And with 7 weekends on the bounce, every bank holiday, boxing day and New Year’s Day, 1am starts every morning, it wasn’t actually a fantastic wage for the effort, but most look at what comes out, not what goes in. Hence nobody wants it for £32k a year, when most general jobs pay that without the need to give up 75% of your weekends every year
