If Tesco spec sleeper cabs on the grounds that the resale value is better, why don’t Morrisons spec sleeper cabs on the grounds that resale values are higher?

Perhaps morrisons are after a lower initial cost.
Resale?
On an Axor??
You mean people would want to buy them?

Export i should think.
Morrisons will keep their kit for longer, 10 years maybe, so they depreciate the truck down to zero anyway
All the new Volvo FM’s that Morrison’s Bellshill recently bought are sleeper cabs IIRC.

Thats because volvo probably wont supply day cabs, when I worked for Asda some years back somebody up high decreed that sleeper cabs were a waste of money and not practical for an operation that only carried out day work, and the next fleet would be day cabs.
Volvo refused to supply on the basis of no re-sale value.

Might be a weight issue?
Morrisons use a lot of trailers with underslung fridges. Day cabs might give them room for an extra pallet?
Or maybe like tesco Morrison don’t give a monkeys about the comfort or safety of the people that are going to operate these vehicles, it’s all about the figures/deals available at the time, I remember Sainsbury had MANs with sleeper cabs (even rigids) & now it’s mostly axors, rigids with no beds in them…

Anybody with an ounce of brain buying kit for the job would spec a front fridge on the trl & a sleeper cab, in order to close the gap between the coupling & save fuel wouldn’t they…■■?
Why the fascination with high roofed sleeper cab for just about every possible use for a truck?
Supermarkets dont NEED a sleeper cab…
And how is a day cab more dangerous than a sleeper cab
If a day cab was dangerous then manufacturers wouldnt make them would they

To the best of my knowledge, although I may be wrong the Axor is not available as a day cab in tractor unit form, all Tesco kit is leased so the resale is not an issue for Tesco anyway. The market in the U.K for 2 axle tractors is probably non existent they probably end up in developing countries, they extend the prop and chassis and fit whatever for a body.
As for Morrisons I cant comment, a duf with no couchette, not good.

Yes P.D seems to have a pathological hatred of day cabs and the Axor in general, T’s and C’s come before fancy kit, transport for retailers is an expense not a money maker, bare bones units and money on the hip ta very much.
Like others have said where tesco asda etc renew the trucks every 3 years on lease scania merc etc probaly offer a better price on certain models due to what they can do with them.
When tesco first went scania they leased about 800 p113 4x2 day cabs. When they came back off lease they have 800 trucks that no one realy wants. You can stretch a few in to rigids infact my old firm had 3 as skip loaders but its limited especially as a rhd.
So you offer a better spec at the price and have an easier time disposing of them.
DAF years ago use to charge more for a day cabbed 2500 than a 2500 sleeper cabbed , its a option to have a day cab , use to pee me off having a day cab .
I’m not saying it has to be fancy with bells whistles & a high roof, just a bed behind & some of us will be a little more comfortable & happy… If I was in a developing country I wouldn’t buy a ex-UK day cab for certain!
Manufacturers will make anything where there is a demand for the product, they don’t give a monkeys about its safety or impact to individuals even though they pretend to in order to please h+s etc, guns & knives kill people but have they stopped making them have they…■■?
I think that Morrisons buy & own their vehicles rather than lease them like Tesco. This means they also tend to hang onto them longer. This way the vehicles are shown on the balance sheet as an asset rather than a liability.

Think that used to be the case at morrisons. We just 64 fm s back in march at our bellshill depot. And the dafs we had before them were leased too.

Because Morrisons is a Yorkshire company, and as we all know, Yorkshiremen don’t like to part wi’ brass for owt extra.
