I had a chat with the Michelin rep today, he was saying come Euro6 the front axle weight will be too heavy for 295/80’s on the front, we will all be using 315/70’s
I really cant see how?, a V8 scania is aprox 250kg heavier than a straight six and most of that weight must be on the front and they dont all have super singles on?.
a 315 is not a super single though but can handle the weight of any engine
so if i have 295/80,s all round am i right in thinking i can put 315/80,s on the front without too many issues, appreciate different rims would be required

Seen my 2nd euro 6 truck today, and funnily enough it was on 315/70 all round0
ooo can i borrow this pick as proof because my local daf dealer claims there are no euro 6 new style in britain yet and aint likley too be till next year
There are 2 customer vehicles and a couple of demo rhd according to the driver.

Yes, but would need 9 inch wide rims
Has anyone actually weighed the difference between a standard rim and tyre and a super single assembly?
We have had this same discussion many times and I am one for standard tyres for the reasons given and more.
Bearing and king pin wear, the narrower tyres cut into soft ice and snow easily and are in my opinion more comfy to drive on.
Super singles on front ,spots on roof, they both look awful.
Sorry, couldn’t resist. You are the other family of Punchards from Ashbourne aren’t you?
yep thats me ,there the other lot we are the Derbys dept , i one of 3 brothers and uttoxeter are our 3 cousins ,11r225s are about my barrel.that fh would look loads better with out them bars on.
I have bought some new durabrights and going to put super singles on the steer axle to stop the front end sinking so much in fields when straw moving and also in hope that the steering feels better, because at the moment I do not have a positive experience steering it. I have a 6x2 tag with a 295 single wheel on the tag, im changing this to super single also, my question being, should I put a steer tyre on the tag axle? then if uneven wear occurs on the steers I can just swap the wheels around as the offset is the same.
Cold Up North:
Is it illegal to put super singles designed for trailers on to the steer axle?
I have been offered a cheap pair of 385/55/22.5 on rims but they are a trailer type but have a steer type tread pattern. Any reason why not■■?
Dont know, but we first put them on our 86 F12 in 1989 with welded rims !!!
All the doom mongers said it would wreck the old girls steering, well apart from new proper rims she was still on super singles up to a year ago when she retired to the barn.

Most would probably put recut front steers on tags and midlifts. Someone’s units I do work on that are tags on landfill work do put s/singles on steer and tag so imagine there must be some benefit on that type of work as judging by the rest of the unit it’s not for looks.
Have you not got a trailer on s/singles?

yeah received wisdom is it’s bad news for kingpins but I’ve never noticed an abnormally large amount of trucks on s/singles in for kingpins or balljoints for that matter.
Still not that convinced on them myself though.

Trailer tyres are cheaper and are better suited to the scrubbing from turning that you get on a tag, they also have lower rolling resistance if you get the right tyres, so a trailer tyre is the only tyre I would run on a tag axle if buying new.
If I had some worn out steer tyres I’d cut them and put them back there and that would be what I would do with all my worn steer tyres in future, but as I said, if new tyres were needed, they would be trailer tyres every time.

Thank you, trailer tyres it will be then, they were cheaper as I remember.
Yeah, scanny v8’s have 315’s on the front & 295’s for the rest.
I ordered bridgestones but the depot had used one when I went to have them fitted so supplied these michelintransport.com/ple/fr … ubrique=45 at £395. You would not believe how smooth the steering feels now, hardly any wander on these rough country roads, very pleased with the change to SS.
