Sunday truck ban.You for or against

Definitely for. Economic meltdown is just scare tactics. The box heads have it (noon Saturday to midnight Sunday) a d they have the strongest economy in Europe! Bring it on so we can all have our lives back. Plenty of overtime available in the week to stock up for the weekend for those that want it IMO!

Yes there should be a ban. It has worked fine over in europe for years now… Parked up by 10pm on a saturday night no movement until 10pm on a sunday night the only lorries that move are ones with perishables on such as fridges etc. We only run 24/7 because the customers ie the supermarkets demand it. With the internet and the such there is no reason for shops to be open 7 days a week what ever happened to sunday the day of rest

+1

I agree with, bring out a blanket ban on all roads midnight sat to midnight Sunday and all bank holidays as well. I think it’s awful either way some drivers are forced to work weekends and some are just money grabbers.

We have to stop this 24/7/365 culture that’s growing.

Having seen the state of our roads on a Monday morning with upskelled lorries and cars, a Sunday ban would treble that amount, you only have to count the Belgians who cause mayhem in Europe, they spend all day sat drinking in the sun, then drive through the night and fall asleep at the wheel, normally taking up 150 metres of hard shoulder or a few cars.

Sunday any way not to many lorry in the road.people wont buy some fresh food, takeaway Monday.but fresh food have expire time 2-3 day.so factory maked food for Monday normaly Sunday morning.this food must collect from factory, bring to DC, after to shops.if will be sunday ban Monday all day half shop will be empty

If you travel on the trunk roads on a Sunday you don’t see that many trucks compared with the rest of the week, except maybe Saturday afternoon. Most of the trucks you do see are delivering to shops anyway and I’m sure the supermarkets and large retail stores will have enough clout to get exemptions.
As for truck drivers having a day off, as far as I understand the regs you’re supposed to have 45 hours off each week, can be reduced the only thing it will change is forcing truck drivers to have Sunday off instead of a day or 2 that suit them and their employer.
The other thing is when will those trucks that run Sunday to do a Monday morning delivery be on the road?
Monday morning with all the other traffic that’s when.

Typical snide ■■■■■■■■ remark that makes you no friends apart from fellow idiots.
I’ll still be working sundays long after you’re signing on, because there’s as much chance of sundays being banned as the euro being banned. :grimacing:

I’m all for it, really wish they’d implement it…

Yep count me in Im all for it the likes of Tesco etc can whistle and close, give us our lives back lol.

If I recall, didn’t fridges come about to preserve food longer? BBE, sell by, use by etc are all marketing ploys! If you don’t know when something is edible or not …

Not only that more would be sold if it WAS fresh! Or try growing your own or using your local shop! Or isn’t it convenient anymore.

Im totaly against it

could be ok if you work days no tramping local for supermarket etx

But eg at moment if on euro and had to be in say Germany monday morning you can leave here sunday park at border in and tip monday morning with driver having saturday at home with family
if changed that be ship sat morning 24 off at border not seeing family

same could be said for uk tramper based in south say got glasgow monday morning
leaves sunday travels up theat would change to leave saturday and have breakup there
so could be fine for many but not for most

We have aenough restictions in industry already and n haulier is making 1000’s per truck and especiually at moment is hard for many to stay in business

I’m against it moving Sunday’s traffic would just clog up the roads more during the week. Also on a more personal note I’m very happy with my Thursday to monday shift pattern. Just like most people on here I want what’s suitable for me.

Or more accidents early hours of moday morning as drivers starting at 10pm sunday night
to get to firstdrop and spent all day up with there family and then driving tired threough the night

It is a good idea!
As others have said, we used to manage fine before shops were open 24/7.
The constant move towards a 24/7 convenience shopping is not progress. It is a ball and chain for those that have no choice on the hours and days that they work and a nail in the coffin for family time.

it’s a crap idea.
a driver manages to avoid the french ban, then arrives in the uk to be [zb]ed up by another ban resulting in him not getting home and taking his time off in a layby.
when the ban finishes, he tips, reloads, and turns for the continent. the bloke might get home by the following christmas.
all european truck bans should be abolished. they cost industry billions, and we are in the middle of a recession.

+1 and +3 from my kids and wife

As a casual driver who does quite a bit of weekend work I’ll have to say I’m against the idea.

I don’t work weekends at all but I fail to see what the point of the ban would be! What would they be trying to achieve?
If its to free up the motorways then it’s simple, make more use of the roads at night. I drive nights and the lack of other traffic is amazing compared to days.
Fewer trucks on the roads during the day would be a massive help with congestion and would not prevent anything being delivered. Simple.
