I suppose the general overview is, It is open to the individual persons interpretation of the rules, We may think we are ok to drive Sundays on the continent in this kind of combination but if the Police disagree, We have no leg to stand on, As they are the ones dishing out the fines!
It has worried me to read this because I have to travel to Munich in a few weeks with my van and trailer and part of my journey will have to be made on a Sunday, Lets hope the guy that parked you up is having a day off and his replacement interprets the rules the same way as I do!!!
In Germany there is a driving ban on Sundays for commercial vehicles with a trailer no matter what size. So either drive without a trailer (up 7,5t is no problem) or tow a bigger trailer with a “normal car”.
Even if you are towing a caravan with a van if your going on holiday through Germany they can fine you and park you up till Sunday 22:00

Not quite true, Vans are mostley as a “PKW mit geschlossen kasten” (car with closed box) entered in the German V5. If its a firm van, the firms register it as a LKW (truck) to save road tax, these vehicules are not allowed on the road sundays “with a trailer”
As long as a van is privitly registered you can use it with a trailer sundays, the problems start when in the british V5 a company name is entered

Nothing do with colour mate, that would be racist, maybe one day the UK will have weekend bans for trucks, like in Europe.

I don’t think so, Tesco & Asda would never allow it!!

Hi bristolvanman,
Sorry mate, but I can’t see the relevance of a link that discusses the situation in France.

This topic is about Germany, so I’d just point out that the rules in Germany are exactly as pointed out by gbtransp.
I’m afraid it’s got nothing to do with a person’s interpretation, or whether the police disagree.
FYI, I’ve posted the original of the German law on this subject just below and my personal translation just below that. (This is a ‘Google’ free zone. )
If you prefer to see the letter of the law, then here it is:
StVo §30 (3)
[StVo is the German equivalent of the Road Traffic Act. Section 30 (3) is what the OP breached.]
On Sundays and Bank Holidays LGVs with an authorised GVW exceeding 7.5t and trucks pulling trailers are not allowed to circulate between the hours of 00:00 and 22:00.
I tackled the subject of vehicle bans on certain days in Germany in this topic:
German LGV driving bans. (The WHOLE story...) - EURO DRIVING FORUM (INTERACTIVE) - Trucknet UK
To find the part about the “Sunday” ban under StVo, please scroll when you land, because the first part deals with the bans in Germany on some Saturdays.

As pointed out by gbtransp, it’ll depend on what’s written on your van’s V5.
My suggestion is that, if it’s a company name on your V5, you might reconsider your travel plans, because it’s the fact that you’re pulling a trailer that will attract attention from the police. The van on its own wouldn’t be a problem though. Does the van have a roof rack??
I hope this helps.
