Sun is shining all is well today

Having a proper day. Big smile on my face. No air con, not many gadgets but one of these…

No idea…

What that is.

Perhaps it’s an item they found on the spaceship at Roswell?

Or it’s from the Ann Summers catalogue?

And it does a ■■■■ pshhttt when you use splitter.

It’s the simple things in life. It’s the only twenty year old that would let me inside her

That is…

The controls of the spaceship at Roswell!!

Are you going to a vintage rally, that looks like a V1 FH/FM.

Nope three loads of sugar beet. Still in full operational duty!

Interesting fact…

The tacograph/speed limiter system can be neutralised by sticking a wire in the yellow one at the end and earthing it off. It’s easily reached by lifting out the the tray in the centre consol.

So I’ve been told.

I was told, put a staple in the small diagnosis port (the round one) at the 10-to-two position.

Yep ! It used to work

why on both topics,

why…because some drivers dont work for stobarts or tesco and have the ability to use their initiative.

Don’t understand why some drivers cream themselves over manual boxes. The appeal can surely only be nostalgia for the old boys.

I’m more than capable of driving a manual, drove them most of the time in a previous job with no fuss amongst others crying about them. We have a few on the fleet in my current job & every time I get one I can’t wait to get back in an auto. Can’t be arsed.

Now that’s irresponsible, you will get butter all over your touchscreen.

Because there’s just a tiny bit more skill required. That said I have a banging head, you forget how loud they were compared to modern.

Would I want to do city work in one now, no. It just makes a change. Everyone to their own and yes I’m an oldie.

id think the main difference for some is as follows.
theres those who can,
and theres those who cant.
the ones who can, have the option of keeping their eye in now and again just for the fun of it,whereas the newer influx have no option whatsoever as they have passed in an auto and have been indoctrinated in empoyment as paid from the neck down kebab meat in the seat with the plobber companies with no hope of experiencing different aspects of driving whether they want to or not.
they cant get flung the keys and told to get on with it,or just find somewhere with a map and bit of initiative as practice in case the satnav fails.
i think its just sad that the trade has gotten dumbed down to match kfc and burger king working practices.

Well, I still like my manual and given the choice for the rest of my driving days would choose it over auto any day. Certainly for the type of work I do (building sites) it makes a lot more sense. I suppose if my job was plodding up and down the motorways between RDC’s I’d be ok with an auto. City work such as London I prefer gear jamming as the setting off in autos drove me mad with the delayed reaction.
Horses for coarses.
I live near a maritime manager who used to drive who says the majority of ‘drivers’ at his place actually cannot drive the manual DAFS they have or had, not don’t want to but physically can’t!!!

I’ve only been driving a few years. A good auto box wins it for me. Driven plenty manuals, knackered clutches, clunky stiff spots in the box etc. Those issues annoyed me even more than arsetronic in Daf and MAN trucks. Scania auto I’m in now isn’t perfect but makes life so much easier.
As an aside. I had a hired manual Scania for a month at my old place that ran auto Daf 's . Four drivers refused to drive it on my days off.

Funny you should mention that. I drove this one last year for the season. They asked me this year again and I asked for a bit more money. I didn’t get the season. A couple of weeks ago they told me they had an agency running this lorry 7 days a week for the season. I raised an eyebrow to myself. Tipping and manual and old doesn’t sound like a recipe the local agency staff will eat readily.
Two weeks later they are looking for weekend cover. I guess they couldn’t find enough jockeys
