Summer driving bans

Whats the summer bans in place for France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Benelux countries?

Ian.

France. Apart from the normal Sunday restrictions between 22:00 Saturday until 22:00 Sunday, there are restrictions on 23 and 30 July and 6 and 20 August from 07:00 to 19:00. For hazardous the restriction is until 22:00 which means they cannot move from 07:00 Saturday until 22:00 Sunday on those weekends.

Italy. On addition to the normal summer Sunday ban from 07:00 until 24:00, there are additional restrictions on days of heavy traffic.

23 July 07:00 - 24:00
29 July 16:00 - 24:00
30 July 07:00 - 24:00
6, 13, 15, 20, 27 August 07:00 - 24:00
3 September 07:00 24:00

For vehicles arriving from another country the beginning of the ban is postponed by 4 hours

For vehicles, travelling to another country the end of the ban is brought forward by 2 hours. Travelling to Sardinia the end of the ban is brought forward by 4 hours

In both the above cases documentation must be carried certifying the origin or destination of the consignment, depending on direction of travel.

Spain it is mostly just the regular bans in the Basque region and on certain roads leading into Barcelona and Madrid.

Portugal the restrictions are for hazardous on certain roads.

Benelux. No bans in Belgium or Holland. Luxembourg, just the usual Sunday bans for vehicles heading for Germany, 23:30 Saturday - 21:45 Sunday, and France, 21:30 Saturday - 21:45 Sunday. No restriction if delivering in Luxembourg.

This is the information I have and you use it at your own risk, don’t blame me if I have missed a restriction and you get nicked.

Sure theres not a more wider ban in Spain on the weekends Neil?

I’m sure Ian.

Basque region the ban is 22:00 Saturdays and the eve of public holidays to 22:00 on Sundays and public holidays.

On certain national roads giving access to Madrid and Barcelona, Sundays and public holidays from 17:00 - 24:00.

Heading down that way for say a Monday delivery, it was always a mission to get out of France and the Basque region on Saturday night, leaving you free to drive to Madrid or beyond on the Sunday.

The bans in the Madrid area this Friday were from 16.00 till 22,00 for goods vehicles leaving Madrid on any of the main roads- On Sunday and Monday there will be bans going the other way at the times stated above by Niel.

As far as Holland is concerned there is actually a Sunday driving ban but there has never been any attempt to enforce it although it is on the statute books.

I was aware of this ban too, although a Rijkswacht occifer told me it was only for National transport, and not enforced unless for extreme congestion

Vascoingles I passed a long nosed truck from your company on Wednesday, what is it? is it a Volvo?

As Wheel Nut says the Dutch restriction is only for national transport, they have no restrictions on International movements. On two or three occasions I have done installations on a Sunday in Holland, assisted by a crew from a Dutch company. They had to travel to the site in vans or cars, rather than turn up in their trucks as the normally would, because it would have counted as a national movement.

Wheel Nut my EX company has 2 long nosed Volvos and 1 long nosed Scania

Sorry, didn’t realise you were not there now.

I loaded with a dutchman from VO in Longue Jumelles a couple of weeks ago,

Left 2 weeks ago to try something else I can now be found driving this

Ooh, Nice, are we likely to see you on a ferry? :stuck_out_tongue:

That is a distinct possibility as we do go to the UK on a fairly regular basis
