Are the police correct in closing down all the lanes on the M5 due to "jumper"that wanted to jump of the bridge in to the river by the motorway, and not from the bridge on the motorway. It was suggested that a screen could have been erected for talkers to persuade him not to jump in to the river, thus allowing traffic to carry on its normal operation. At fatal RTCs,RTAs,is it only the UK that can shut lanes on a motorway for collision and coroners to attend the scene to obtain evidence for the courts. The cost of closure must go in to millions, not forgeting families with young children,or ill people on the way to hospital.Booked delivery times to RDC
s,where the haulier may have to pay a late fine to the company.
On the surface it appears that way but the Police and doctors are probably better at assessing the situation than we are. It doesn’t really matter if goods are late to an RDC because when a motorway is closed, all trucks are late and fines are not levied on the haulier.
The bloke was obviously disturbed but who among us have not been at some point? Human life is sacred and I applaud the Police for placing so much importance on this operation, regardless of what Tesco may think about it.
this reminds of the story in china where a bloke had been threatning to jump of a bridge and had held traffic up for hours, one of the commuters who had been held for hours walks up to him and pushes him off
i’d say its the right thing to do, the last thing you’d want in that situation is a rubber necker wiping out the emergancy services on the hard shoulder. i’d agree however in the event of a serious accident the motorway should be open sooner.
Is this the case from a few weeks back, didnt the guy end up jumping or falling from the bridge to his death.
In my opinion the Police should have picked him off with an expert marks man, they could do with the practice and we could do with free flowing roadways…Everyone is a winner…And the guy wanted to be dead too…It doesn`t get any better does it?

yes, after the road had been closed for 7 hours
Should a got a sniper in to take down this ■■■■■ These folk going to do suicide jumps are attention seekers, end of day you can kill yourself at home. Mummy maybe didn’t give him his weekly pocket money?? No sympathy for ■■■■■ like this.
When I went passed southbound the motorway had only just that minute been closed, and I’m sure plod had the guy pinned to the floor. Thought nothing more about it till I needed to head back
Let the attention seeking selfish prick jump. No time for these “suicidal” tossers. “oh everybody look at me ive a hard life” so does every one else either jump or get back to work ■■■■■■■

I sort of agree with you, i had left Felixstowe at 01.00 that morning, just dropped the empty box into Portbury, and spent the nxt 7 hours on the Dock road before finally parking in nearest parking in Shirehampton at 20.45, as i said sort off because at the end of the day it is a human life we are talking about, yes it wuz a ferking nuisance doing a 18 hour day but not as much of a problem as having to recover a body that has fallen over a 100ft.

I’m going to agree as well it seems an excessive time to close the motorway but it was trying to save someones life !
I was lucky - I ran out of hours before I got back that far so didn’t get held up at all - just heard it on the radio ! My daughter was not so lucky as she was stuck in the queue between J20 and J19 !
