The issue I have is the office only operates mon - sat, therefor there’s no way they would contact you on a sun, last week was an exception because there was a training day on the sun. I was given a list of “useful” numbers on the first day, but these were all for out of hours brakedowns. I tend to be of the opinion that I’m paid from the neck down - if there’s a hold up, ring the office, they make the decisions, not me. So should I be chasing looking for a decision? I was given rough instructions on fri along the lines of - come in sun, drive 4.30 hours to the other depot, park up - but make sure you have enough time for your 11 hour break before you start on mon morning. When I asked what time I needed to start on mon I was told it’s usually around 5am, but someone from the other depot would call and confirm times, trailer numbers, etc. so according to my calculations, that would have meant leaving the yard at 13.30 to be parked up for 18.00.

But in this case they said they would, BUT THEY DIDN’T …and you have spent most of your day off worrying about it. If the ■■■■ has hit the fan it is THEIR fault for enjoying THEIR day off more than you, and forgetting to ring you How is that your fault exactly■■?
Just enjoy what is left of your day off and ■■■■ them.

Absolutely spot on - go ahead and enjoy the rest of your day with the other half instead of being on here chewing your bottom lip but, um, a post tomoz eve would be interesting

It’ll be the ops fault, whatever the outcome, you can bet your life on it
As stated before, in the past I would have made an effort in order to impress, but those days are long gone. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve witnessed in ever job I’ve had that the more you do, the less you’re thought off! While the usual suspects who do the least, earn the most, and always seem to get treated a lot better than those who genuinely benefit the company! Not to mention the fact that I was told several times before I even went for the interview by the transport director that they couldn’t get anyone interested in the job I was applying for, but it’s the same job I had been doing for 4 years, just better paid. Therefore I can’t see it being a sacking matter, just ■■■■■■ off I’ve wasted a Sunday morning and the prospect of a few pound extra come pay day!

Now you are starting to make sense. I have never been a yes man and never bent over and took it up the arse (both literally and metaphorically you understand ) I just laugh at those that are and do while they get ■■■■ on all the time, and treated worse than me.
On the other hand if a firm looks after me and treats me with respect I will, (and have)bend over backwards to help them, if they don’t I won’t…simple.
This way of working has always worked for me in 35yrs in the job.
Is this thread serious or a wind up? Who are these clowns that are telling the OP to come in on a Sunday afternoon on the ‘off chance’ that he’ll be required to work? WTF. No wonder this industry is so ■■■■■■ up, it’s populated with ‘yes men’ who are happy to be treated like absolute ■■■■.
Robroy has it right : ■■■■ 'em. They didn’t make any concrete plans with you, and oh, it’s too late now boss, I’m in the pub and had too many sherberts. See you at 7 in the morning? Bye.
As mentioned before- e mail. Phone calls are one thing, covering your back with time stamped e mail is another. Suggestion
Hi
I spoke in person to the TM on bla day. I was advised I may be required to work Sunday. I was advised a call would follow to confirm this along with following details. I have not been contacted to confirm or provide details. I’ve attempted to ring the office throughout Saturday without luck as I am mindful of making sure there hasn’t been a miscommunication. I take it I’m not due to work Sunday now, so I’ll report Monday.
Kind regards,
M mouse
You’ve done your bit, don’t turn in, that’s crazy. You were last instructed to wait for confirmation.
Edit: clearly as its Sunday not Saturday my suggestion is useless. Screwed body clock. What year is it??
Not a lot! Arrived in at 7, and was given the paperwork for a different job. Was told another driver arrived in after me on Friday and asked to get the Sunday overtime. Apparently they never thought to let me know. Just reminded them that next time I’d just be doing as I was told on the Friday - if that means coming on in on Sunday to find no paperwork I’d be in the bunk waiting for it on Monday morning, with my timesheet filled in for the necessary hours and overnight payment.
Think it may be a while before I’m asked to do that again!

So you actually went in on a Sunday on the off chance that there’d be some work? What a muppet.
jprioredi:
Sorry, should’ve been a little clearer - I went in at 7am on Monday.
Well done mate for sticking to your guns and not letting them treat you like ■■■■.
It would appear that they were contemptuous enough towards you by not even having the common decency to let you know that plans had changed, and were happy enough to see you taking an unnecessary journey, their attitude being that you are ‘‘just a driver so what does it matter’’, so as I said in my earlier post …■■■■ em!
It’s a pity a lot more drivers did not stand up for themselves instead of being yes-men and/or victims, the job would maybe be a bit better. It has always worked for me.
If they wanted you to ring them they would have given you a phone number
They said they would ring you (how long do you wait to ruin your day)
You should have had a time Friday or no deal.
God help us there no hope for some people and a Sunday as well
