I’m new to this and have completed my first full week driving via an Agency
The company I worked for liked what I did and stated…“come and Sub Contract to us we can pay you more per hour”
I understand that with this option I am in effect Self Employed and have to register that way and complete my own tax return etc but will it be more cost effective?
Who is doing this out there and do the benefits out way working for an Agency?
Cheers

If they like you, why don’t they just offer you a PAYE job?
It’s not usually worth the hassle of LTD company, insurance, unpaid hols etc etc etc if you’re one bloke driving someone else’s truck.

I don’t believe LTD and SC60 are the same things
The company in question have all their drivers on this basis…not employed
ask the more sensible other dudes working there and see if its a good paying income? would that not make sense?
being brand new on agency wouldnt normally make you a prime pick for a prospective employee when usually its all the we want someone experienced guff"
ask the ones thats worked there for a long time, depending on if you think the jobs a doddle.
if theres no long timers there, then get a real job elsewhere,or stick to limping.

No, of course they’re not the same thing, but they both come with similar hassles and both boil down to more hassle for you and less for the company. Again, ask yourself why they don’t just employ people. As dieseldog says, try and find a long-serving driver. I doubt you will though.
I’ve opened a can of worms here and i’m not coming across very well.
Yes this company has mentioned it but I am wanting an opinion on the SC compared to Agency in general, I have no intentions of joining this company in any shape or form.

Well I keep hearing about crackdowns on “self-employed” people who are employees in all but name, but have seen little evidence of any action. You can do a gov.uk quiz thingy that will tell you if they see you as self-employed. Might be worth doing that before you make any decisions, as the can of worms they have is a proper one!
Agency means you dont need to worry about liability insurances, finding work or getting paid (in theory).
Self employed / contractor for companies you got non of this for a tiny bit more money.
As for the tax dept, I would suspect if you’re doing work exclusively for one company on your own but without the truck, you might come to the attention of HMRC even quicker than via an agency. Then effectively its up to you to prove you really qualify for the tax breaks.
