Tractor and bowser spraying water along a public road when the temperature is just above freezing? Suppose someone comes along unaware that the local quarry has been making a mess, sorry “cleaning the local roads” and loses it on sheet ice. Could the driver claim on the quarry operator or is it a case of “drive more carefully.”
I guess you are talking about the bunker hill, kidlington rd/Woodstock junction?
That’s a good point. I guess you’re not meant to leave anything on the public highway or interfere with its surface. So mud. If what you use to clean it leaves something worse than mud, an area of sheet ice then at fault and worse so for being an ignoramous.
An ignoramous that has probably diluted and washed away any road treatment with a bowser and left standing water in freezing conditions behind. So come evening, nice driveable treated road, no ice, then patch of ice care of tractor man

I am indeed, marvellous road. You either get blinded by the sun on the standing water, peppered with a mist of mud or slide off the road into the ditch.
Not forgetting a snaking mile of traffic behind Captain Carrot Cruncher who drives the tractor down the centre of the road. Car drivers must find this quite interesting.
J41 M6 is a B road used by trucks for years going to Wigton and Silloth.
The locals do not like hgv.s using it, there is a steep hill half way that has caught out a few over the years with many getting stuck and a few rolling back down, or misjudging when reversing back down when stuck.
In the manual box days you knew the technique for getting up, but many rely on the auto box today and make an arse of it, so the situation got worse.
Anway rumour was a few years ago, that a local farmer was spraying diesel on the hill to create more problems to instigate an enforced hgv ban, it was more than likely true as you could see the colours of the fuel when the road got wet…a lot more than usual, most of the farmers are connected to the local council, so nothing was proved, surprise surprise.
No disrespect, did’nt the quarry have it’s own wheel wash ?.

So wheelwasher was spray ice crystals then…
An ex boss of mine had an 05 plate fh written off because of this.
A plant hire company had tippers in and out of a building site.
We were drawing stone passed the gate.
We passed by and the road was fine, came back and it was a sheet of ice. The Volvo hit and mounted a stone wall. Cab written off and the impact actually caused the 2 inch stone in the trailer to come out over the headboard. Driver was fine but truck was written off.
He claimed for it off the plant hire companies insurance.
It took almost 2 years to get it and almost broke him.
They were found liable for spraying the water and causing dangerous road conditions.
That was back in 2008

Yes,and two roadsweepers although one isn’t roadworthy so is just used internally. This tractor and bowser is nothing more than a dust suppressor which now it has no dry dust to damp down, they seem to think sprinkling water on a grubby road is a good use of it.
Funnily enough a gritter went past yesterday, then their roadsweeper came by and…
