Do you hear countless stories of how bad your company is to work for, the crap lorries, disregard for laws etc? I ask because I’m fed up being told by people that where I work that the money’s crap and we run bent. I expect it’s come from ex employees that can’t hack the handballing but want the wages that come with it.
You’ll know better than anybody whether you’re running bent & being paid buttons or not!
Have you set these rumourmongers straight??
Think what it must be like working at Stobarts
If the pay was pretty good for a straight-forward cleanish job, then everyone would be keeping their heads down that works there, and those that moan would be those who can’t get in there.
A bit like trying to get on RM agency regular I’d say… RM don’t try and con around the AWD like a lot of other firms, so you get the parity pay after being there 13 weeks, which is a better deal than a full timer gets (6 months before full pay achieved). As it is though, there’s only enough work for non-manpower bods like me to get in there Christmas time so far…
Manpower Maidstone are “not recruiting drivers” - which sounds a highly unusual thing for an agency to admit. Until you remember that 90% of their work is HIAB and RM, and no one wants the HIAB…
Draw your own conclusions. My tuppenceworth suggests that there’s a lot of ex-nine elms and ex-twelve trees drivers who’ve signed up at Maidstone in particular for some reason. If it’s because they actually come from around there, then I would actually be surprised, because they’ve been commuting all that way to London all these years.

Wouldn’t worry about it. It’s the age-old fable which probably stems from the time when drivers at different companies using kit that was either better or worse than they were having to use, and were paid varying rates of pay for doing the same job. Or drivers who had got themselves better jobs advising others to do the same as they were being made “Mugs” of.
As for being accused of running “Bent”! Pure bitchiness, and unprovable crap as we can be almost sure the TC will know different. Crack-on.

Yes. everyone knows how much (or little) i earn, how my company is going bust or owned by someone else.
I just get the 1000 yard stare, nod and grunt occasionally, then ask em what depot they are from.
“oh, my mates brothers uncles nieces boyfriends ex landlord had a mate that did an agency shift for em and he didnt like it”
is the usual reply.

Always raises a few smiles when you relate the newest pile of rubbish story someone told you during the day when you get back. Best was when a bloke was trying to convince me our depot had shut at the beginning of the week…
Smile and agree with them (tends to shut them up) then laugh about it later…
Yup, I do. You only got to look at some of the S&K threads As above - nod, smile and crack on is my advice…
I work for an Irish firm, the number of drivers that have told me that I’m paid in euros, and that we run bent is unbelievable. I tell them were paid in Stirling and everything is run strait, they never believe you tho.
Same on the coaches - everyone says so and so is a complete zb to work for…
Apparently my boss is a complete merchant banker, he is isnt lol
Far to many drivers talk about what other firms and drivers are doing, instead of keeping their heads down and getting on with their own work.

But if they did where and when would the morons have their fun?

So…do you have to drive up there every week to pick up your wages??
Soz…couldn’t resist!

Where I’m working now you don’t get this. It must be as they’re an own account/restricted O license operator, so you don’t get exposed to other operators’ practices.
I can’t see a lot of the rumour merchants doing my job anyway.
When I got this job and told people where I was going to work the tales I heard very nearly made me turn the job down. I hadn’t been driving long, just over a year, and was new to the industry so didn’t know what drivers were like for being prophets of doom and gloom. It certainly made me go with a suspicious attitude, which turned out to be totally unwarranted. I’ve now been here seven years and I can’t see me leaving for a while.

They could still be exposed to other firms in the same line of business taking their work off them Nathan. Don’t tell anyone where you deliver to,otherwise someone will undercut them.Have seen it happen.
Cheers Dave.
