study material

Hi there just wondering what study material every one used for there operator cpc if you have any recommendations or thoughts and feed back on study material I would like to hear them

Eos and Friendberry are the most commonly used notes:

eostraining.com

friendberry.co.uk

I have used both companies for road haulage national and international (2011 / 2012) plus passenger operations national (international later this year.)

My experience is:

Eos:

Very clear notes. Written in the objective tone that goes down well with OCR.

Good summaries and stage tests. Slides that unfortunately you can only have access to in a classroom were excellent.

Lack of diagrams and pictures in the notes, which is less helpful if one has a visual learning style.

Mock exams are ok, but not stunning.

No DVDs or CDs

Friendberry:

They have the edge on customer service.

Notes are detailed, but not as well laid out as Eos. They can be a little confusing at times and there is a slightly informal tone to them which should NOT be used in exams!

BUT: the detail was good, there is a useful index, there were more pictures and diagrams, many in colour, so it is easier to visualise vehicles, forms, etc.

Stage tests are more extensive than Eos, although the deleted questions and numbering schemes they use for their own updates are a bit of a pain.

Mock exams and answers are EXCELLENT, especially for a case study scenario.

The DVD, were dated, quirky and not very useful.

The CDs were a bit tedious, but could be useful if you’re out on the road and can listen to them without being distracted.

Summary:

If money / time was tight, I would buy the Eos notes and the Friendberry mock exams and model answers.

Having the notes from both companies is useful if you can afford it and have time to read them. It certainly helped me understand some points more clearly, being able to refer to both sets of notes.

Both companies are good and this is just my personal learning experience, of course.

I hope this is useful to you.

I have being looking at the David Lowe range of books

I home studied last year using the EOS notes and found them to be very good to get you through the exams. Some docs are mentioned in the EOS notes that should be reviewed at the same time e.g VOSA’s guide to road worthiness.

Key thing is to forget most of what you think you know and just absorb the syllabus.
