Anyone guess what he should of tried in the second video
FAIL
Should’ve raised his lift axle (if possible). (second video that is)

like this one, same bit of road as well
2nd vid, he sould have dumped it and wandered off like a true “professional” driver would have
in the 3rd vid, WTF did the idiot in the XF try and get past the tanker?
That’s bloody unbelievable…
Why don’t any of the 6 wheelers lift the middle axle, what’s with all the wheelspinning & putting the pedal to the floor & the raising & lowering of the unit suspension? Now I know it’s a rare occurence, snow that is, but surely common sense tells you that you need to lift the mid-lift (there’s a clue there somewhere) to put more weight on the drive axle & then gently let the clutch out to get rolling slowly, now I know that’s not a guarantee that you will get going, especially on a hill, but it would make it a lot easer to get going than the efforts of those in the videos, especially the p.rick in the Aldi Scania, when that axle started hopping he should’ve lifted off, he had momentum & would’ve been able to keep rolling
I know about these things, I’ve done a North American winter so that makes me an expert

And dumped air of of unit, and using diff would have helped if he’d got it surely??
You can’t lift the axle if there’s enough weight on it, only transfer the weight button (on scanias anyway). Last thing you need if you are in that situation is some prick filming it, that’d really ■■■■ me off. Amazing though the number of drivers who wouldn’t think to lift the axle anyway even if they could and don’t know what a diff lock is. Raising the suspension does naff all, I think lowering it may give you a bit better traction but hardly worth messing around with it.

I’ve not really had much experience with mid-lifts, but the X reg Actros I had would lift the axle fully loaded, so would the 51plate Scania & the 02 plate Volvo, I had some Stralis too but none of them lifted at all, but they were twin steers, the tanker & the Scania had midlifts & the 8 wheeler, well that’s just ridiculous. lowering the unit & lifting the trailer could give you a bit more weight on the drives, I get that, but you’d get more weight up there by lifting the axle, In the same situation I reckon I could’ve got moving with a lot less drama than any of those blokes, gentle use of the clutch & throttle, proper use of diff locks & lifting axles, maybe even drop a bit of tyre pressure, whatever, but one thing that I wouldn’t have done (unless I was hourly paid ) was sit there wheelspinning, all that does is turn snow into polished ice & on that you ain’t going anywhere fast.

Some of our “drivers” haven’t got a clue about diff locks/traction control
One thought he was turning ESP on (Actros) (didn’t realise it was on by default), when in fact he was turning it off
Another swore blind his diff lock wasn’t working (actros). He was fumbling around under the flap behind the gear shift (emergency gear selector switch)
Another one thought the “hill start assist” button on an auto daf actually helped him get up a slippery hill
Priceless

Strange but true.Sheet ice on a hill will stop any truck better than 2 feet of snow even an 8X4 tipper. But things would have been a lot worse there if that had been a 6x2 or 4x2 artic. But given a faster run at the hill and if he’d have put the drive axles into the loose snow to the side he probably would’nt have even noticed it.
The guy in the first vid should try very simple thing: moving a bit to the side, off the icy tracks into snow, might helped him.
The van driver was rather brave trying to pull the idling truck - if the truck driver tried a bit, maayybeeeee…
Lifting the axle is not always possible as there may be axle overload protection in place.
Raising the suspension does nothing apart from lifting the front end of the trailer. You still have the same weight pushing down (unless pulling a half full tanker). Lowering the suspension does the opposite - right up to the point when the tractor is hanging on the kingpin when you have no traction at all.
Traction control is a dodgy thing as it usually cuts back power or applies brakes - turn it off when trying to get unstuck.
Diff lock only helps if one side spins. If both sides spin then it’s down to shovel and grit (or snow chains).
There’s a saying that goes “when winter asks what were you doing in summer, what will you answer?”

Unbelievable was aimed to the “driving”, not to the conditions as everyone (apart from anonymous tipper driver) knows that spinning wheel isn’t going to get much grip on ice. That driving was something car driver could do, but from a professional driver… I really can’t express myself how absurd that looks to my eyes, there really shouldn’t be much problems for a rigid to get up that hill.
should of slapped the posh ■■■■ with the camera having a “snow Day” off from work while the driver dragged himself out of bed and tried to get himself and his truck down to that ■■■■ hole to deliver that crap he had on board !!!
while all the posh tossers look on and cheer and laugh and scoff and criticise.
