Stuck in a layby for the weekend

I see many EE trucks parked up waiting for reloads back to Europe or having a weekly rest in a grotty layby in the middle of nowhere.
No loo, no pub to walk to, no social life.
They cook inside the trailer or by the side of it with a fully equipped kitchen.
Cab curtains shut for days, maybe they get picked up in their friends car and stay at their house, as there is no sign of life when I go past a few times ?

Maybe they see you coming and play dead. :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember years ago opposite the BP truckstop at Wolverhampton, there were two EE trucks parked up waiting for backloads, same trucks were there for 2 1/2 weeks, they never moved an inch.

They know I would flog some furry driving clogs, bull fighter spears, and frilly curtains.
See me coming and think, oh no , it’s that dodgy looking cab trash salesman on his push bike .
I nearly got punched while trying to sell a ticket to the Lord Mayor’s daughters show to a Romanian built like Geoff Capes.

Used to do warehousing for a Greek company years ago, couple of times had drivers in the yard for 5+ weeks. Would have driven me nuts, but they seemed to handle the wait OK. Can’t see they made any money, most were ODs.

Next time stop by with a cheap bottle of wine, a fresh baguatte for his dinner and maybe some fresh strawberries. Give him a wee chat about some of your tales of the road and make his day.

Or come on here and gripe about it

I had to swap trailers with a polish chap in Belgium last week and he was sitting there for God knows how long playing far cry3 on his laptop with his Xbox controller happy as a pig in ■■■■.

If they can happily sit around for a week or two waiting for work it suggests to me that UK based truck driver’s have no reason to complain about their own jobs then? Never had it so good…
I was parked up at Toddington Services in my van one Sunday a couple of years ago and there was a Dutch o/d there with the front wheels off fitting new brake pads, he then tilted the cab and replaced both cab dampers. He was going to put the old parts in the rubbish bin in the truck park but I collared them from him for scrapping! He was waiting on a return load of beer that wouldn’t be available until later in the week but wasn’t sure just how long he would be allowed to park on the services, not long I assume?

Pete.

A lot of spaniards are parking up in the grottiest ,smelliest laybys the a650 in bradford has to offer, god knows where they go or do for days on end because theres nowt nearby apart from 2 snack bars that pack up around dinnertime, you cant get out of the cab in daylight without standing in crap and litter so i wouldnt fancy it in darkness :open_mouth: 3 were parked up over xmas and new year,i hope they dint skype home and show um the surroundings  :frowning:

What Via Valtelina?
Anyway there aint nowhere decent in the Uk anyway for the poor boys to park especially for a weekend. Would you pay to park in one of our motorway services for 2 days! Must cost £50 at least which is a lot of money to waste!

went up north the other weekend and seen 3 Norbert drivers paying a small fortune to park at wetherby. nothing for them other than a bog and shower that I could see. and if the food was anything to go by no wonder they cook at the side of the trailer.

I used to get weekended, but I made sure it was in LLoret De Mar. There was a coach park you could park on there Friday, tip in Barcelona Monday morning…happy days…actually very happy days
