Well, for once I have to give that to the media: the weather was indeed extreme. I struggled to keep on the lane with mediocre loaded sprinter at 55. And on the way back, when they closed M74 motorway and the queue on diversion was right back to Red Moss truck stop, I decided to go over the hills via all these country lanes… I never seen anything like that: it’s wet, then the wind comes and everything gets frozen in two seconds.

Also it managed to shift my empty sprinter to the side by about 20 cms when I was pulling off…

I saw:

  • two lorries on the side
  • three cars stuck in the ponds
and I had to turn around 5 times for broken down trees.

And I was only to Bradford and back…

I was in the Edinburgh area for most of yesterday morning , my trailer is only about 13 and a half foot high but I was heading back empty and could feel the wind pushing the wagon about.

I pulled over on the City by pass for 30 mins and listened to Radio Scotland it said the M9 was closed in various locations etc , I then travelled along the by pass and an arctic with a curtainsider was on its side just after Baberton, I took the M8 and travelled at around 40 mph , a few trucks did likewise then we got curtainsiders from ■■■■■■■ overtaking in convoy going flat out. Total madness !

I saw this. Both curtains were torn off. It was on its wheels when i went past (on the diversion) about 15.30.
Saw you in Cherwell valley switch aswell, think i may have walked past you.

I think I know  I have to say, I fully agree with you. You can use my movei from Germany as an example how to deal with the things without closing the road for 12 hours if you wish:

Coming back to yard this afternoon on M62 by Little House On Prairie was rough :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

While Scotland wasn’t as bad today, I started to feel it around Lancaster all the way to Huddersfield, and the Prairie was a bit blowy. I found it worse though just down the hill passing Scammonden.

Because I’ve used my 2 tens this week, I’m double manning to Bothwell tomorrow and possibly Friday, so more of the same for me probably.

Ken.

2 HGV’s over in ■■■■■■■ tonight, both M6 southbound, one at J41, and the other at J38. Cross wind gusting at high 60’s mph and building.
1 over on Woodhead pass, pass is closed until tomorrow as too windy to attempt recovery.

Windy in Glasgow tonight. I was visiting my friends, they live on the hill and when I was coming to my car when I came from behind parked bus, the wind took my guitar (I wasn’t holding it too strong, as I was searching for the car keys in my pockets) and it flew about 4 metres. Luckily for me its light classical guitar in soft cover, so no harm done…

sounds evil out there at the mo,gonna be a few over by morning me thinks

There were quite a lot of containers blown over in the Potter group container yard this morning, Hopefully this weather won’t be lasting too long! Stay safe out there folks

Cheers

Jonny
