Winds are currently high 60s low 70s across the carriageway the M6 over Shap, take it easy guys, just watched a few struggling to keep it straight!
Well id say Luke is firmly safe for qualifying for the knuckle dragging club admission terms are as follows
Drives an overpowered truck for 3 mars bars a week
Has an inanimate thing as a companion that has a personality of ita own.
Doesnt or refuses to use ios or Android

Went up to or penrith Thursday and Friday night wasn’t to bad to be honest
Conor:
Well the wagons which ended up on their sides on the A1, M6 and A74 had more than 18 tonnes on the back.
How did you know that ?
chicane:
At the risk of being accused of trying to teach you guys to ■■■■ eggsI look out for gaps in the buildings, landscape, trees, long valleys where the wind can be funneled M74 at Elvanfoot where the wind is funneled by the Dalveen Pass or further up near Douglas, exposed stretches of road - hill tops, bridges…
Trees, spray and debris can give me an idea of the true direction of the wind
Head/tail winds don’t seem to be much of a problem, most, but not all, of the outfits I’ve seen on their side seem to have been on a bend turning towards a crosswind (i.e. bottom of hill at Junction 38 on the M6)
I always keep the driver window open at least a little bit so I can hear what’s happening and any changes. If conditions are tricky the radio is OFF
I’m always prepared to back off and let the heroes get on with it. Not had to yet but wouldn’t be afraid to park up if I felt it necessary. Changes of sound from the wheels can indicate black ice and other conditions which can affect traction.
Use ‘feel’ a lot to tell me if something has changed, the vibrations coming up through the floor, seat and steering wheel.
Sorry if that sounds like being holier than thou but its just what I do
If its going to go its going to go. All you can do is slow down and hold on tight. Parking up in a shelter spot is the only way to be safe

Last night was the worse I’ve seen it in 9 years! I could hardly stand up in it. My face was red raw and my ears nearly popped from the pressure, I would imagine it was like standing in a hurricane!

Yes but enough about your ■■■ life what was the wind like…

Aye, agreed, as far as I could see the one that went over M6, J42 had strapped the curtains open but still went over. There’s an HGV Garage shares the yard and the number of outfits calling in with a missing or ‘rolled up’ roof where the wind has got under it is a bit sobering.
On A75 and A69 Mon-Thur which aren’t too bad, Fri I’m doing two runs to Glasgow hopefully the weather will have calmed down a bit by then.
Hope all the drivers who went over are OK.
Friarton Bridge (Perth) gives me the willies even on a calm day for some reason.

Oh dear.Oh dear indeed. Once again you continue to look like a ■■■. You’ll have notice I said on the way back. If I’d have said on the way there then you and your mouth breathing hangers on would have had something to crow about.
When I set off it wasn’t that bad. I got all the way up to Penrith with an empty double decker and 3/4 of the way back without feeling it was unsafe at that point. In short by the time it occurred I drove over 300 miles and had been at work for over 8 without feeling it was unsafe. Hardly the same as going to work and setting off thinking it was is it?
Only a halfwit would see there being any contradiction between those two posts but as I expect, neither you or your fellow oxygen thieving low IQ knuckle dragging hangers on incapable of forming their own thoughts possess enough brain power between you tol understand that and will just sit there patting yourselves on your sad pathetic backs.
Spot on Connor

Connor won’t be run off this board by the monkey and his spawn that for sure ,connor has been on here years and has always been alright with me ,always only too willing too give helpful info too anyone who needs it .
Can be blunt ,straight too the point but I’d much rather that than thev5 yr old juveniles that seem too frequent this board these days .

All the ■■■■ and ■■■■■■■■ had died down and dozy goes and revives it, ■■■■■■ typical
Bet Conor is flattered to have the dubious honour of having good old dozy as his number 1 fan
Spot on advice from chicane and Dipper_Dave for anyone reading wondering how to deal with the wind.
Wednesday and Thursday is forecast to be interesting again. This last Friday it was 93MPH gusts in Sheffield.
Wednesday and Thursday can do its worst - I’m on rest days 30 miles away from the motorway.
Black ice is the most likely problem round here, waltzed round 8 miles of twisty ‘B’ road on my way home in the van last night. Just what I needed after 13+hr shift including the Actros refusing to start when I was just about to leave a collection (wire to the starter had corroded through
), woke me up a bit though

we have a terrible forecast tomorrow on wards for upto 80mph winds i do not like strong winds, just a question will they blown you over with say 18 tonne on the back of a class 1 curtain side trailer.Absolutely. They’ve blown over fully laden 44 tonners with containers on the back. Weight isn’t going to save you because the force being applied by the wind to the surface area of the vehicle can be quite serious.
I assume your wide eyes are because you’ve learnt something new.

As I’m a crap driver these are just from my experience others may know better.1st and most importantly its always in your hand to proceed or decide to wait it out, ignore any pressures or delivery times.
Get those curtains as tight as possible, both hands on wheel, CC off, be aware of overtaking heroes, watch whats happening around you (wind direction etc), watch other vehicles ahead, be aware of sudden powerfull gusts, don’t fight the wind to hard be flexible within reason (not 2 lanes of carriageway though), avoid any sudden panic corrections, watch your speed (although there is an argument for just going full pelt I prefer to ease off slightly), look out for sudden exposed stretches (no trees etc), also watch out for flying debris (not much you can do but duck really.
Basically 80mph on the bumtwitch scale is puckered up quite firmly.
Wind is unpredictable the only thing you can know for sure is its going to be a challenge.
