Hi there,
Just a quick lowdown on my situation:
I’m originally from south-west France but now studying at Falmouth University in Cornwall. My ideas and plans have changed and now want to become a trucker (Please no doom and gloom about trucking, I’ve had enough of that with the photography industry!). My plan is to continue with Uni and undergo all the necessary training after a finish.
The question is: Is there anything I can do in the meantime which will strengthen my CV for when the time comes to actually apply for a job? Any little tips on what to include in a CV that employers look for? I don’t want to just sit around and wait until I get my license to start doing things, I want to cultivate some skills as soon as if possible.
Growing up in a van on the roads in France and being the type who enjoys being by himself means I’ll probably be looking at working my way to international trucking. Hopefully being bilingual and having driven a lot on French roads will help towards that goal.
Any advice would be really appreciated
Cheers
P.S As I mentioned earlier, it would be really nice not to have any negative replies. I have plenty when I wanted to become a photographer and already heard many about this industry, too. Life isn’t perfect!
I think you will come across the same barriers as other newbies but will probably attain your goal in a few years after getting the licence
Not sure what your uni structure is like, it might be worth a look at (circumstances dependent) doing it now, then you’ll have X amount of experience by the time you finish which will make things a lot easier.
Since you said you’re at uni I’ll hazard a guess that you’d be under 25 and would be subject to the usual insurance rubbish, so that’s something to keep in mind for when you decide to do your training.
It might sound silly, but add in keywords for the employer to pick out such as honest, reliable, punctual etc. Anything that would make it more likely for them to give you a call.

Yeah, good point about doing it while in uni. I did think about it but my photography course is very up and down, so nothing is certain in terms of when I might be free or when I need to work on a project, which would make passing my license while at Uni a little awkward. I would like to focus all my attention on going through all the training required without having to worry about Uni at the same time. And I need to save up to afford it anyway!! haha
Great, those are nice little things to add. I’ve got reliable in there, will have to see to put some others in without overdoing it.
Thanks for the tips
