Unusual pic, first, its in England in the 60’s maybe early 70s, didn’t see many French wagons over here then, second, although its a Saviem its got a Henschel badge above the Saviem one…Its definitely French registered, in the department of the Rhone

Even stranger? Meat fridge from channel ports-Boulgne, Dieppe and Cherbourg on the trailer. Possibly dropped his trailer oop nord and do you fancy a quick jolly over the water?

There were plenty of French wagons on the A2 between Dover and London in the later '60s and early '70s, many of them regulars like the brown bonneted wine tankers of Giraud.

I didnt live near the A2 betwern Dover and London, so thats why I didnt see that many.

Bridge St, Hatherleigh , Devon. Even the red phone box is still there.
There is a by-pass now, A386

What is it with the headlights? Should they be twins, but the inners are damaged?

No, the headlights are OK, if you look at all those Saviems from that era you’ll find they’re the same. Its something to do with the angle you look at them, and something to do with the reflector coating inside. Someone like Froggy or Micheal with more experience will give more info I’m sure

Thanks, looks peculiar.

Heres a radom one with the same headlights

Righto…
That one has the inner/outer reversed. Dark on outside, whereas first had dark on inside.
But as you say they are a feature of the design.

Initially, the Saviem JL 20 was powered with a 150-bhp (180 bhp if turbocharged) Somua 9.6 litres engine. A 200 bhp Henschel engine was later available. Circa 1965, Saviem and MAN set agreements to fit MAN engines (200 and 230 bhp) under this cab, and renamed the model JM 200 & JM 240.

This picture (yes, I confess there isn’t a single truck on it) was taken in Portobello road, London, in 1972. What exactly can be the third car in the row? Reliant, Marcos, Ashley? Thanks.

I first thought a GT6 with wider wheels, but doubt that now. not quite the right lines.
A TVR?
Note also that 5 of the 10 cars are Minis.

Thanks, The GT6 could match indeed; I had completely forgotten about that model. It seems it’ll be difficult fot the driver of the Wauxhall to squeeze his car between the sportster and the Mini!

My immediate thought was: an AC Cobra

Vauxhall? Viva Mk1 ? At first glance I thought it was a Cortina Mk2 ? I am not at all sure now!
Time to look at a few images to check.

What exactly can be the third car in the row?
AC Cobra would be my guess.
