strapped ???.

it looks like it was strapped ■■?. dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scot … t-26188145

Going a bit bloody fast! Timber’s always a slippery load. Can’t see what straps he had on there, but you need more than one lot over the top.

Yes it’s quite common that loads aren’t tied down sufficiently

See it all the time

Seems to have had two straps, whether that was enough depends upon the weight of the timber.
More importantly, was the load tightly packed before securing? If each stick had as little as a half inch gap when strapped, when the vibrations of movement close the gap, there is slack in the straps. This will then give the load momentum when it moves, overloading the straps.
This is why the securing devices should be checked after a few short miles and regularly en route.

Should have had a minimum of 3 straps on there. The straps also don’t look wide enough. I shift wood and always have to check for movement down the road and retighten the straps after setting off. Got to wonder if he had any experience with straps and ratchets or whether he was new to them. Experience would have told him to use at least one either end and one in the middle.

I’ve done bits with wood was often told don’t do straps to tight your damage the wood.
Maybe he was told the same and.belived them.

I ignore any such advice and secure the load how I feel fit, I am the one who will be at the wheel.

How much does the wood weigh under those 3 straps ?

Personally I’d have strapped the bottom half separately.

Same here fed up how.many times I collect a load told don’t strap it to tight your damage it or don’t need bother with straps etc.
Way I see it it someone wants an expensive machine or what ever moving and they cba spending a few quid on wrapping it up properly not my problem I’ll strap it down as tight as I can so it doesn’t move.
I got into habit now if anyone says anything j just say has be done vosa are parked up doing spot checks on load securirty usually shuts them up

Me too .

I passed this shortly after it happened, thought that the lorry was being unloaded at the time.

Exactly!

Yes me too , secure the bottom load , then secure top load separately.
Recheck after about 10 miles .
If anything I over strap with any heavy load .

It was hahaha

You should always use at least three. If you use two and one fails then what happened in the video is what can happen, you go round a corner and the unstrapped end makes a bid for freedom. If you use three and one fails the load stays put.

Not enough to be an issue. We move packs of chipboard arranged in stacks of two, each pack weighing 4.5 tonnes so each stack is 9 tonnes. Three straps will hold it just fine as long as they’re not the kind of stuff you buy at Halfords.

what’s the penalty he’ll get for that…3 points and a fine?
