Strap advice

Looking for help as a newbie. So I’ve landed my 1st driving job on an 18t curtainside. I’ve got the hang of the curtains and strapping loads straight over ( from drivers side to passenger side) . There is no internal strap rail so everything is done with ratchet straps. My question is how to strap around the back to stop load moving backwards. I’m ok side to side as said, I use the hooks into the little lift up bracket thingies but unsure how to do this around the back? Have watched videos where its done on interal rail to form a cross but cant find anything for my situation. Any advice?

I’m assuming you’ve roof supports , I just pull them to 6inches from back of load , then strap round them across back of load ( a driver trainer said it wasn’t acceptable , but when I said go - on move the post then ) he couldn’t ha ha
I do have some ratchets as well that actually clip into the slots on most posts ,you’ll obtain the gear as you go along , keep your eye out on your travels

If you mean the D-ring type objects, these are attachment points and are the right thing to use. Just choose an attachment point forward of the rear of the vehicle, pull the strap back at an angle, around the back of the load, then into the corresponding attachment point on the other side. It would be easier to describe in an image, see this DVSA video, particularly around the 3’ 8" mark.

Internal straps are pants, they’re only for light pallets (<400kg), I’ve never found any decent use for them, and don’t pay much attention to the “angle of the dangle” part of the vid, you’ll never see one of those outside of a training video  Same with the “load securing dockets” they talk about, no one ever gave me any written information about how the vehicle was loaded.

Imagine how you wrap a parcel. You fold down a triangle shape. With no internal roof rail you need to make the straps follow a similar top to opposite bottom diagonal path. Viewing from the rear doors forward, If the side rave has D ring anchorage points then throw the strap over so that it is high one side and low the other. Attach the strap hook to a D ring level with or ahead of, the last pallet and the ratchet to a D ring the other side. It is better to have the ratchet on the low side so that you are pulling forward rather than down. Repeat in the other direction. You will have three straps over these last two pallets, Two diagonal high low and one straight over… If there are no D rings attach the strap hook and the ratchet hook to one of the side rave crossmembers (under the floor) NOT the rave itself.

Although the images are of roped and “sheeted” loads the idea is the same.

Stand up a pallet or two up against the back of the load then pass a long strap through the pallet and tighten it up so it pulls the pallet forward against the load

+1 to this when i had a pallet that the contents were lower than the securing rale halfway up the box i used to wrap the stuffing out of it then build a cage out of palets wrap that and then put the straps round

Cross straps across the back.

Go to the hook one in front of the last one on the back row that’s where your pallet is, no need to go as far forward as they have.

Just use a pallet an cross thread the strap through an it will tighten up the load forward an it wont budge an inch back if done right.
