An agency called Barr Personnel were advertising an Open day in Southampton for the following job -
including another job for 15x day drivers and 15 x night drivers which is where they mention the Open Day (can’t find the link sorry)
It turns out that they were recruiting for Stobarts and willing to pay £10 an hour.
No matter how I do the Maths, that amount doesn’t come anywhere near the £30k they mention, let alone the £50k
I thought I would name and shame as I feel that they got me there under false pretences

Tell them this when you were there? Did you say you were gonna post your thoughts about them on an internet forum?
We appreciate the heads up but, things won’t change unless you confront the perpetrators.
Just like the car/truck dealership- go there to look one over and be told sorry that ones sold but we have this one here at x amount more…all lies just to get you there…

Tramping for Stobarts means maxing your hours doesn’t it? 70 hours a week at £10 an hour is well over 30k a year, however you do the maths!
I didn’t think you were allowed to do 70 hours a week, tramping or not…
That would be 70 hours a week for 52 weeks a year to make £36+ and kill yourself in the process. No thanks

You’re not allowed to WORK 70 hours a week but you can easily be on duty for 70 hours.
I don’t really have a big problem with being paid 30 quid to spend 3 hours in my cab reading a book or using my laptop, playstation or watching telly rather than being at home, earning ■■■■ all and listening to a moody teenager but each to their own.

Yeah, I don’t really want a 70 hour week either, was just trying to show that you can do the hours without killing yourself, got a bit carried away!

obviously different if your on local work,but if your tramping,and your out for your time,then it cant only be me that would pick max hours for max pay?? 9 hours is more than enough to get fed and watered with a good kip…11 can bore you to tears and no good if your having to start at daft o clock…for tramping,id take the most hours and most dosh when your days are away from home anyway…trip dosh suits me fine and theres not much local work involved in that…
Having looked at the link there appears to be a lot of jobs that no one wants. Out of the 40 advertised about six have had more than ten applicants, about the same have had no applicants including one advertised for four weeks. The remainder, around thirty, have had less than ten applicants each.
Away from home a lot but id rather do the hours with minimum breaks, get bored with too much time off. Watch tv, eat, drink, sleep, clean my truck, work out with the dumbells outside (get funny looks with that one 
) and walk around. Cant wait to get going again sometimes. Its never less than 65hrs a week for me…

That’s how i see it, I’m away all week so might as well do the hours. Better being away from home and working than being away from home doing nothing.

Another +1 from me ^^^^^^. I go to work to make money. I tramp all week to maximise my earning potential. I do tend to go out and socialise on a night, but I feel that I need to do that to unwind from the long hours. However, if I’m home any night during the week I get all sulky if I’m not away from the yard and on my way home by 4pm as I think that getting in like a zombie later on is ridiculous and you may as well stay out and save your fuel in the car and get a long nights sleep than do that.
