Watching planes landing and trying to land at LHR in high winds today. It gets exciting around 1010.

Holy Moly that’s scary, I wouldn’t be anywhere near one of those things in a storm Come to think of it I wouldn’t be in this queue for the ferry either

Dont bother chaining the trucks down, they
ll be right !
.
Few years back a mate of mine had his brand new truck wrecked when an un-acc fell off it`s trestle and slammed into it. Got paid out eventually, but there was hassle.
.
I did a storm ten on a flat bottom freighter. Very…interesting…
Laugh now, but it felt very iffy at the time.
.
Flew into Alderney with a stiff wind from the north . I was passenger in front seat, the wind drops over the cliff edge and makes a swirl.
Through the screen you see a normal approach glide, then the plane drops suddenly, and then lifts up again. I was warned but my finger nails still got embedded in the seat cushion!
Taking off at dusk the runway was lit by a LandRover driving along the runway edge and a guy putting battery lights down.
The ILS at the old Honk Kong airport (Kai Tak) was based on a large checkerboard mounted in the mountains above the city.
Pilot would latch onto the signal (which meant the plane was heading straight for the mountain) and when zero distance was indicated turn 90 degrees and hope the runway was visual. If not visual had to go around and try again.

Looks hairy.
Seen “Mentour Pilot”? Excellent.
He is a working and training pilot. Some really clear and well balanced stuff.
He has covered approaches in crosswinds from the pilot`s perspective, and also look at this unstabilised approach into Paro, Butan. Listen to the missed approach (go around) comments at the end.

It would be a lot easier to watch and listen to without this Murray Walker of the Myrtle Avenue Mob going on and on like a radio host talking over your favourite track when it comes on all the time…
