Strange Trailer

Saw a Bowker motor yesterday, pulling a weird trailer. It had about 10’ of curtainside body at each and and a tank in the middle. Anyone know what it’s for? Never seen anything like it.

They had one in BASF at Cheadle which could pump IBC etc, could be a replacement

Not the trailer you are talking about but I have also found this strange tipper trailer, just wondering what it is used for?

That looks like a trailer that is used to collect green or food waste for composting. There’s a company near me that uses one similar for those jobs, the strange bit on the side is a bin lift.

Nah, it’s full of JG’s Pears. It says so on the cab.

Used to collect waste products etc. from abattoirs, usually smell offal.

Saw a strange one at Oban the other week. 30ft tanker inside a curtainsider with a deck above the tanker!

The trailer Drempels saw sounds like the BASF concrete additive trailer bulk deliveries in the tank and IBCs in the curtainsider bits, I think they are on mk2 now, mk1 worked but wasn’t quite right. I seem to recall it was assembled bt Thomas Hardy Engineering in Chorley from supplied chassis, tank and bodies.

The trailer caversdad saw is not as rare as you might think. If it was in Oban it may well have been Mundells from Tarbert. I seem to recall that they have several carrying palletised goods to the islands in their case mainly Islay and the reloading the tank with Whisky to various blending and bottling plants in central belt.

Thanks everybody, cleared a mystery up!

The other one mentioned is one of a series of award-winning designs, tried and tested in the demanding terrain of the Irish border

Here you are: designed by the late Geoff Whittle, Bowker’s Technical Director for many years. NOt sure of teh details, but apparently the barrel wasn’t new

I used to see a Belgian driver on the train, he had a short tipper trailer with a fridge motor on the front. I had a 40’ skelly with a generator underslung

ARLA tried these , milk collection from farms and cages to shops on the same truck as after doing the shop deliveries there is no weight until collection from farm…normally used in remote areas to save a truck movement

Marley floor tiles had something similar 50 odd years ago. Took floor tiles from Lenham to Burton on Trent, and collected bitumen to take back to Lenham, which was used to make floor tiles in those days.
