I’m into history/ghosts etc and thought I’d use this to test how well known a local legend was.
Delivering to a large country estate in Oxfordshire I had to wait near the main gate first thing on a spring morning. When an estate worker (quite an old chap) knocked on the door I asked him who kept riding a horse up and down the drive,as I was trying to sleep? He paused and asked “what did the horse/rider look like?” I said I couldn’t see anyone but the horse was very close and baying.
Old guys face was a picture…until I started grinning. He wasn"t best pleased as so the legend goes, a ghostly lady is said to gallop up the main drive, heralding the death of the sitting Lord. This chap reckoned the previous Lord (who had died only a few years before) saw this ghost a few days before he snuffed it and readily accepted it.
I’d read about this legend, but didn’t realise people took it so seriously!
Early this morning around half two there where 3 cars parked in the inside lane on the A19 with hazards just past stockesly exit, As I past there was what looked like a fairground truck moving very slow with people walking along side the trailer.
Confused the hell out me as I did not get a decent look to busy looking out for people obstacles
I’m sitting here crying with laughter kr79
Thank you so very much for reposting that, not read it before and you have made my night

When I was on the vans at the market we had a kid who was sent out with us to learn the job, obviously he got stitched up more than once, and him being greener than green even more so.
Sent him into a Church to ask for Vic.
Sent into a Jewish bakery for bacon butties.
Into a Transform kind of shop asking for keys to the Full Monty (also a well known cafe up here at the time)
Bubbles for the car wash, loads, It got that silly that we were trying to think up simple daft stuff to see how far we could push it, and it was pretty limitless
So WHAT was in the suitcase?!
I once saw a considerate well driven Adison Lee taxi driver near Gatwick.

Another strange thing I remember seeing as a kid years back when I was in the truck with my dad was going up the a10 as we passed Hertford a transit minibus full of Hasidic Jews passed us towing a small trailer. Any way got about 20 mile up the road to witness chaos the trailer had become unattached flipped over a couple of times and spilled its contents all over the road. No one could go anywhere and there were a dozen full on big hatted and curly side burned Jewish chaps of all ages and sizes rushing round trying to gather up all there lost luggage.

Oh I forgot about the worlds biggest cabbed lorry for a driver who don’t go more than 30 miles.
was building a BT manhole chamber in cable street, east london(i used to be a bricklayer),car next to me started tooting -i looked up and it was our supervisor/agent ,he was laughing his bolloxs off and pointing- i looked round and there was a bloke running down the road without a stitch on,with two old bill chasing him!
When the M! first opened there were only two lanes and no speed limit - not for trucks or cars. I was driving North in my car on the outside lane overtaking and doing about 80 and there was a Mini behind me hooting and flashing lights.
When I eventually pulled over I was amazed to see that the Mini had four nuns in it.

lies, lies, you’re making it up
I saw an Earthline tipper doing 40mph on a scway a few months back. He was following me (and not too happy either!)
This was a good story about a certain layby on the A37 south of Bristol…
Old hat maybe, but still very watchable.

Back in the 90’s I used to drive a Mini, and had total electric failure driving past this tree on three seperate occasions, two during the day, but the scary one of course at night, cos it was pitch black about, and deathly quiet.
The only history of the area I could find was that the plague pit burials ended at “graves end” nearby, perhaps in the very fields alongside. There’s also a village called Bode nearby that was depopulated to zero by the plague, and used to have a de-consecrated church there, with pentacles painted on the wall, and remnents of black candles in the derelict interior.

There’s a crossroads called "the Watching Place in Devon somewhere which is meant to be haunted. Crossroads used to be used to hang criminals and suspend them in chains (gibbets) because it was believed the ghosts would be confused by the roads and not come back to haunt those that sent them to swing.
If we’re venturing into spooky stories, can I add mine.
My cousin died in a car crash when he was 17. Shortly afterwards, some ghost flowers appeared on my aunts wall, looking like watermarks, but they started as buds and grew into roses, my aunts favourite flower. Whenever they redecorated, these would start again, and so on.
My aunt died in 1993, some 14 years after my cousin, and I got really spooked the day afterwards, when I was convinced she was in the room with me. After about 5 minutes she left, and 10 minutes later I had a call from my girlfriend, who I had got engaged to a week earlier. She said ‘you’re not going to believe this, but I think your aunt has just been to see me.’
To cap it all, after her funeral, a second batch of flowers appeared, and when my uncle died a few months later, a third bunch. These lasted until the house was sold, and haven’t been back since, according to the new owner.
She always did promise me that she’d let me know if there was anything on the other side!

There was one survivor of the plague in Dode the “Dode child” a 12 year old girl who is said to haunt Dode church, it was restored several years ago and is now part of a retreat for those of religion, nearby Paddlesworth church is maintained by the redundent churchs commision & is open to visitors,Paddlesworth village was also wiped out by the plague(history lesson over lets get back to work:lol::lol:)
