storm imogen

I’m only going back to Tilbury…And i left Greys at 16.10…And i’m still only at lakeside…That’s like 4 and half hours…Unbelievable…

SteveBarnsleytrucker:
I remember it. Shame that bell end Michael Fish told us there was no such storm coming though :unamused: I was 7 year old at the time but remember it all over the news and damage all over the shop.

We’re the same age then. Thing I remember about that storm was the news when Gordon Kaye (“Rene,” Allo Allo) was nearly killed by a sign blowing through his windscreen. I remember Michael Fish’ forecast aswell.
In the present, the crap weather has temporarily closed Earthlines’ tip at Shipton to outsiders. Three dozers side by side struggling in the quagmire.
And easysheets on tippers lifting up like sails.

You must be all youngs on here anyone remember the Hurricane of 87 now that was windy. Never had any trouble at all today mind you I was driving a artic tanker and the wind broke me front number plate.

I was at sea the night of that hurricane …

Battersea in London

Think it’s going to be the same for alot of us tonight…Have’nt moved of the roundabout for an hour now…

You blokes don’t know what a storm looks like :unamused:
I remember back in 1985,sailing down to the Falklands in the good ole SS Uganda…a rickety old tub held together with mastic and gaffer tape :open_mouth:
3 days in a force 12 gale, strapped into my bunk by belts of machine gun ammo
Face greener than an ES tee shirt, didn’t eat for a week
Those were the days

Another few rounds of flack Boris’s way then.

The Sarge:
It took me five and a quarter hours driving (plus my 45 break) to get 51 miles along the M4 from Barry to Llanelli due to the motorway being shut at Baglan.

Wasn’t Baglan Sarge unless you know summat I don’t. Lorry went over on Kenfig viaduct between Margam and Pyle closed both sides. Still closed to highsiders at 21.00 when I ran into Magor to park up.

Ooh wah Jim lad, but I think I do !! Try 20 days on a Grimsby trawler fishing of Iceland during the winter  :unamused: South Atlantic in a mere breeze :unamused:  I ■■■■ on it

Blimey it was stormaggeddon I even had to tie some cable around a section of fence rail that it tore away from the post. :open_mouth:

Seriously as said above didn’t even get close to the storm of '87.We lost a considerable amount of the chimney and roof tiling in that and we were very lucky compared to the other damage it caused.

First time in a rigid for a long time and Imogen came as close to toppling me as I have ever come in 15 years, A46 out of Bath at the top of the hill as it opens out how the ■■■■ I saved it I do not know it felt like I was on two wheels for a second, twitchy arse time…

Lost 14 pallets of empty plastic bottles and a side curtain and half the roof that night off the trailer. Stationary in a lay-by on the A1 near Stamford. I actually got out and spent the night sat in the passenger seat of an empty car transporter talking to the driver …we also saw trees come down in the lay-by . And some crazy ■■■■■■■■ were still trying to drive !
Bloody terrifying .

when the wind hit my wagon at around 90mph,

Put the fuse back in and slow down mate :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah sorry, should have said the wind was around 90mph,didnt know you could do that anymore with fuses, thought they [authorities ]were wise to it

apparently the are wise to it,the trick is knowing that they are wise to it,and acting accordingly…

To be fair even the Straits of Dover can obviously be a bit dodgy given a proper storm. :smiling_imp:

Soft southern jessies. We’ve been putting up with this in northern England and Scotland since November.

I didn’t think it was overly bad I did a one hit to Poole and back via A37 and Taunton and got hit by a gust near the wicker man at Bridgwater but that was it until I got back to Avonmouth jumped out to gas and diesel up and actually yes it was blowing and big time, the large canopy over the fuel station was rattling and shaking and the rain felt like someone was chucking gravel in my face.

I expect you to know better than me but the reason the Dover St. can be bloody horrid is because of the shallowness of the water coupled with the very strong currents that can be found there. Get the tide against the wind and the seas can mount up to quite a horrible size in less than an hour or so

Absolutely correct  no idea why I typed Baglan…

Went to Brecon today, was a bit twitchy up the top of Bwlch hill.
The hardest part was opening my door once I got to the destination. I had to really face my way out and when the door opened a crack it almost got ripped off.

Tomorrow should be fun, Andover, Bath, chipping Norton and Faringdon. That bit on the 419 over the old ciren road makes me arse twitch at the best of times. :open_mouth:

total pish, what storm■■?..just a normal day north of Watford…if it gets really bad, then the Scottish trunkers get supplied with a denim high viv jacket(sleeveless),and a bottle of irn bru in case they have to wait for a crane at shap.
