Monday coming out from pallet track up the A461 through Walsall. gets up to Mucky Corner and in front of me was a Golf standing on the outside and a traffic cop on the inside, the cop was hanging out the window and I stopped … Golf moves off and the cop waved me passed. Goes round the roundabout and yes blue lights…
Turns out the suzy for the lights had dropped out, probably cause I had to reverse/jack it out due to a woopsy from another driver from Titan and I know they where working when i went in for the paperwork.
Anyway all good, put the suzy back in and the cop was great wishing me a good run back up… but, he said the other driver told him I had no lights…
I’ve thought about this since and, at no point was the golf behind me as there was no one around me going up there (2am)
So, does that mean next time I see a car with a headlight a tail light out, or fog lights on I can stop the coppers and twist on about it?
If he was that concerned to have told the coppers about it, why couldn’t he have flagged you down and let you know himself. Did he think you were intentionally driving around with a black trailer and/or you’d have had a go at him for pointing it out?
I know people would say its not your/my/their job to police the roads but whenever I’ve seen something dangerous - no lights on, no brake lights working, exhaust dragging along leaving a trail of smoke and sparks, etc - I’ve tried to make the driver aware. Usually it’s something they had no idea about and are grateful to have it pointed out. I did once get told to f off and mind my own business though ha
Can’t see a problem Steve tbh, certainly not one worthy of a rant. The Golf driver probably assumed that at 2am you’re far more likely to stop for a cop than a plain Golf.

It does amaze me that car drivers dont check their lights before the set off, it seems to be a lot of newer cars these days running around with one side/headlight out and/or front fogs on instead think its 50/ 50 if a copper stops a car for lights out , but they will always stop a nasty scary big lorry … I’d be happy to be stopped if there was something wrong though.quick fix and be on my way …no harm done.

Would you have stopped for the Golf driver if he’d tried to stop you, dont know what you carry and dont want to know, but I would be very wary off being flagged down by the driver off a plain vehicle at 2 am, or at anytime. I suppose he could have shouted at you through his window, but all in all, and with the copper seeming to be a reasonable chap, looking at the situation and not making a big deal out of it, you had a result .
Reckon you would have been on Police intercepters if you’d trollied off along the M6, “crazed trucker with no lights”, “10 police cars and a chopper were required to bring him to halt”, you know the sort off thing

Some of these modern cars have to have half the front end dismantled to change a bulb these days and how much does your friendly local garage charge for the privilege? The days of unscrewing a chrome rim and twisting the headlamp to replace the bulb are gone I’m afraid.
On the other hand the average motorist just can’t be bothered to check anything lights, tyres, water or oil, until either it grinds to a halt or they get stopped.
What did you expect? The police to give you an ■■■■■■ to where you were going? You sound like a moaning ■■■ to me. I suppose if you saw a wagon with no back lights, you’d not tell the driver or police but come on here and have a rant about the ■■■■ going towards the motorway with no back lights.
Not sure of the area you mention but at no point had you not made a turn after the reverse incident? Even a slight bend in the road and you should be able to see your side marker lights or head board lights?

.
Tell me about it, needed a headlight bulb in my Passat, the haines manual suggests the easiest way is to drop the bumper off , stuff that. I thinks, I can get my hand in there if I get the air filter box out, 10 minutes later blood pouring from back off hand, success is mine , bumper my backside
