I’ve always found this strange with picking a truck up from a dealers. In my experience, you go into the reception and say to them that you are into pick up a truck for Joe Bloggs Transport. I’ve never once been asked to provide any form of ID to prove who I am. I’ve always been handed the keys without any questions asked. Its really that easy to take a truck from a dealer IMO.

and the easy way to sort that problem would be for all dealers , (maybe even car dealers)to insist on a four digit pin number (just like your bank card) , generated for each jobsheet… then when a driver goes to collect a vehicle , his company will be supplied with that number each time a vehicle is ready… , no number, no chance…

engine will be already out of it and sold on ? I had a couple of travellers a couple of years ago asking me in a services to sell them the truck I was sat in and when I told them I didn’t own the truck they just said not to worry about it they only wanted the engine and the cab would be scrapped and gone in an hour , I must admit I did think about it for a minute lol… these things are not just done by chance somebody has to know the garages routine and that the truck was ready to be picked up if I was the cop looking into this I would be looking at employees from transport company and garage …
My Dad worked for a truck dealer near Lincoln which had a hospital just up the road. A bloke came in one day and asked for the keys to a lorry parked in the compound. he went out with the keys, but luckily someone noticed he was wearing slippers…
Chatting with one of their drivers today he said 3 were taken but 2 have been recovered, keys were under the header tank looks like it will cost Volvo a bob or two
