Stobbarts Automotive

Afternoon guys,

I’ve got an interview and driving assessment with Stobbarts in Sheerness driving their transporters, can anyone tell me what I might expect? Does anyone here know what the job is like?

Thanks,

Lewis.

Very hard to get into, complex pay structure, old trucks for newbies, it’s like marmite apparently-good luck…

Expect to have to transport cars around.

Same as every car transporter job but you wear a green uniform and nobody likes you

Are Stobbarts a subsidiary of Stobarts?

Nee naw nee naw nee naw…here come the spelling police.

You will sign in at reception and be introduced to a driver trainer/assessor. Following licence and dqc checks you will be led to the vehicle used for assessment (in my case it was a Scania wag and drag unit). Shove your digicard in, do your THOROUGH vehicle checks and off you go for an hours drive, finishing with a reverse into a parking space between 2 other units.
If you pass that then it’s up before the depot ops manager for interview. Here you will be told of shifts, training, the operation at the depot and what is expected of you. Pay scales are discussed which are made up of a very low hourly basic made up with bonuses left, right and centre. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS! This is your opportunity to get the job info you require, I found the whole process to be very professional conducted by competent, decent and patient people.

This was last year. I wasn’t offered a post as I wanted 4 on 4 off which was not available at that time…However I have another interview next week as the shift I want is now available.

Good luck bud, hope all goes well for you…oh, by the way, put 'car transporters ’ into the forum search and nose through the results, there is a post on there somewhere that details the pay. I believe the meal allowance for Stobarts generally is £15 per day whereas I was quoted £5 per day■■? perhaps transporter drivers eat less!

Leeds is a dirty word to me!

Cab discipline is necessary due to small cabs, pack the minimum amout of kit.
They have to be patient due to the high value loads they carry.
I have seen a full load of Range Rover Vogues, and wonder how much that’s worth.
Or Porsches ,Audi or Bmw,s.

That’ll probably be Walon 2 pay agreement which i believe is still the current pay scheme, if you can graft and get the right loads it can work out well, if you don’t shift the metal it won’t pay well.

Be aware the job isn’t for everyone and the drop out rate is high, always was, but if it suits you it can be a satisfying well paid long term proposition, but it is probably the hardest physical work currently in transport and not something you really want to be doing in your 50’s onwards.

Ahh, that pay schedule might explain why the utter knob head in one of Stobbiez transporters needed to cut me up on the M18/M180 roundabout, turning onto the M180 this morning. If I had not taken evasive action, he would have side swiped my cab. I would report him, but juding by the way he swerved all over the road hell soon be reporting himself… ■■■■■
