Stobbart ports day drivers

I’d say it was quite a good wage really, its pretty simple easy job driving a lorry doing container/curtain sider work, you only need to be able to write your name and count to 5.

£340 take home from £481 gross? At what tax code?

It was a “rough” guess@ the deductions PAYE for tax/NI etc@ approx 29%.

I work class 2 hiab for £8.50 and I thought that was crap for class 2. Dosn’t even look like its worth me doing class 1, I would want £10.50+ to composite the £1000 to do the training.

A old man told me you can earn more on class 2 with the right certificates I think he may be right

I don’t think your far wrong I make it around £360 take home based on PAYE and NI @25%

£8.53 here for class 2 - plant + hiab. Doesn’t sound much, but it’s the best pay round here that I know of.

Is it really ‘pay’ that is the problem, or the cost of living that’s the real problem?

Trouble is you work for a builders merchant chain, who never pay the best. If you trawled around you’d probably find £10hr jobs for class 2 hiab work for transport firms. At least you’ve got Hiab experience it should help chasing a better paid job.
