If you want an easy job go with roadways if you want more variation and probably be a bit more rushed go with stobart.
Can’t help you out with what they pay etc but we have done subbie work for roadways and it is really a doddle.

Roadways used to (and probably still do) deliver to my old place of work (Iceland RDC). The driver would wait while a couple of workers hand balled off all the boxes on the back (bloody hard work let me tell you!) They could be sat on the bay for 4/5 hours. Easy money.
Easy but mind numbing I’d have thought? Even so, with a zero hours contract they can count me out!
The drivers would very often uncouple from the trailer and park just infront of it to get past the whole sitting in the cab/handing keys in malarkey. A good way to catch up on some sleep!
Seems like a ball ache to me…especially when you’re lying in the darkness, unable to sleep at night time!
