Stobarts New Valencia-uk rail service

Chunky:
Because of this 8’6" containers can be carried on the railways in the UK but 9’6" boxes can’t

not strictly true, there are a few ‘paths’ for HQ containers in the UK, i believe Felixstowe to Hams Hall might be one, but I’m not sure - Network Rail are working on creating more, but don’t hold your breath

Ok. I was speaking in general terms, the routes are very limited though. Network Rail can only do so much, the cost of raising 1000’s of bridges and lowering tracks through tunnels means that only a few more routes will get done in my lifetime.

high cube now go nationwide and also go through the tunnel they use low height rail wagons have done for about 5 years

welshboyinspain:
so if it’s standard gauge then it must be the same for the tgv’s in france cos as soon as the eurostar comes out of the tunnel it uses the same line

This is video footage of the new train
The oranges will still be on the trees at this rate.

I maybe wrong but i though that the UK had a narrow gauge compaird to the rest of europe thats why the tunnel trains dont carry on to other cities?

So wont they need to change the boxes over to another train once it comes through the tunnel?

As others have said the gauge is the same, the reason high speed trains from Europe don’t run to other cities has more to do with the fact that our rail system was planned in the 19th century it has bends to go round natural features,
This is why BR tried to develop the tilting train in the late 70’s and early 80’s, and then Virgin bought the Italian designed Pendolino.

It was on our local news last night and said the new service that starts today runs from Murcia to Crayford in London, car parts down, and fruit back.
A couple of things that comes to mind on this, the fruit is only a very short season (3 months max), from now till January, then the price drops and if Stobart is competing with the Valencia/Murcia hauliers they are not going to be impressed, like a few years ago when Willy Betts tried to take on this work and it cost Betts a few burnt out trucks.
Another thing is fridges and trains did not used to mix very well, due to the vibration, unless they have improved a lot, we used to get damage to the fridge units and the load, due the shaking and vibration, but this was on the German Swiss Italian rail systems.

Betz got shot a few years back.

Toby that was the Father who lives outside of Germany
he is protected by ex-GSG-9 , since the shooting

You are wrong. Scotland and England, as a homeland of Rail, dictated the standard dimensions, which is 1435 mm. Most european countries are using that on most lines.

Thanks Orys. For some odd reason i always thought the tunnel and other highspeed lines where a wider track. :unamused:

The guage of the rail is the same, i.e. distance apart but the loading guage is different. Loading guage is wether it will fit through tunnels or stations and the likes

Today … seen one of the new Sobart boxes, was on the bay @ Morrisons Produce, Thrapston, when i pulled in this afternoon. Box is the same as the Visbeen Coolboxx containers … there were 3 of those in, also a couple of Spaniards … in fact i haven’t seen Thrapston so busy for a few weeks ?
Don’t know what the Stobart lad had on, or where he had come from.

jessicas dad:
problems that could arise…

accident on the tracks

breakdown

weather

driver illness

… of course none of these ever happen on roads… :unamused: :unamused:

ok clever git :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: ffs if it happens on the road you lose one lorry load if it happens on the tracks you lose the whole train.

think about it :bulb: :bulb: :bulb:

You will probably find they have got heavy grant aid to do this service. Tesco and Stobart never seem to have problems accessing grants !!

Anyone know who is loading and tipping them down in spain ?. Have they based there own units down there or are they using subbies ?. Have they opened an office down there ?.

There tipping and loading there own at the moment.

Seen them loading Cheps into their box trailers to go over the water at Ockendon

let us hope that this train service is a disaster for stobart.
i am not interested in the green issues, but more to the point.

backloads for hauliers,
i have sat in spain in the past waiting for backloads, sometimes 4 or 5days.
i wouldnt be too happy seeing my backload on a train making profit for tinklers shareholders.
it wont make the fruit any cheaper for the shoppers either.
no point in backing this stobart train service, its like turkeys voting for christmas.
another nail in the coffin for owner drivers and small hauliers.
stobart needs to be stopped before he has control of all haulage and us drivers.

hope it all goes ■■■■ up big time for britains most hated haulier mr stobart

Hi Folks,
Just wondering if this service is still
running and has it effected anybody?

Cheers Malc.
