stobart stigma

Imp:
DHL Wincanton etc dont make a shedload of money from a fan club do they, thats a ■■■■ easy bit of PR from stobarts to make a few extra quid for doing what? Next to naff all thats all

I think that was another masterstroke, an easy way to raise their profile. I suppose DHL have done it by sponsoring F1

I don’t think the fan club was ever planned, but they were sharp enough to see an oppertunity once thier trucks were being reconised.

I have just typed the words “stobart” into this forums search box

There are 234 pages of results. This forum alone and its members give more free publicity to the big green machine than any Eddie the Engine toys or fan club ever can.

I think there are many closet fans hiding behind a user name

Also Stobarts have sponsored many things in motorsport over the last decade too. Different drivers in rallying, from British series to world stage, superbikes in BSB and football at Carlisle. Mind you William is something of a motorsport fan and has competed in rallying with some good results winning a national event 5/6 years back. Mind you his buddy Mr Wilson at MSport probably give him a good deal!

That is the interbreeding in ■■■■■■■■ it is like Nascar, they are all 2nd cousins…

Paul Bird, Malcolm Wilson and Vent Axia all have sponsorship deals and family ties.

Lets put ourselves in Stobarts shoes for a minute…

Given the chance, would you do what Stobart has done?

I dont like the company for a variety of reasons, but given the chance, i’d rather have made with my life what they have made with theirs, than what ive done with mine…

WA Developments money that saved them. William and Andrew were already successful in the construction business when Edward sold the company. I think he had just lost control of the management and some drivers.

I think the thread title is wrong and should be called Stobart. Jealousy?

Get over it! Stobarts have been here for 40 years! And look like they are here for another 40 years! William and Andrew and shareholders always have the option to sell the lot! I’m sure Death Strangle would like to take them over if no one else!

And ever since have expanded and grew!! In 2003 their annual turnover was £47million! Last week it was £500million! :grimacing:

err i’m having trouble keeping up with my own topic here i think

what i intended to ask was would our attitudes be the same towrds the company as a whole if it had all gone Irlam

i think ?

People have always slagged the successful businessman in the UK

Who remembers the huge fleets of Taylor Barnard, Brain Haulage and Russell Davies?

Glynn Davis then ran Securicor, Hanbury and it became Wincanton.

I remember the haulage rates from that era and it was cheaper to buy haulage in Felixstowe and Ipswich then anywhere else in the UK. Yet Stobart still is judged as the big bad ogre who has killed the haulage industry. It was dying long before that.

Tink has been amazing since he took over the business, he has taken it to another level.

Most people are jealous of what Stobart has achieved, most of the above hauliers should not be compared with Stobart

Hope i am typing the right thing on this thread but are not all us drivers just the same traffic does not part for Stobarts as it does not any other driver .It just seems to me that most drivers would like to be taken care of in the same way .As of course there are some like myself that did not like to work for big companies i always liked to think of my job as somewhere i wanted to go not where i was forced to go to earn a living .Having done 43 years and had to quit due to ill health i would now gladly work for anyone but that is just wishful thinking on my part .So please remember all every company has its divs and dopes its just that Stobart having so many drivers has more.

eddie wanted to do away with trampers
.william brought them back and fair play .because they were so so close to going under

I agree with you mate, i work for stobarts, for the moment any way, and there is a lot of divs there, and a lot of them that work for the stobarts think they are top notch walkin about with their folder under their arm, but when you see them drive, well thats another thing, some of them couldn’t drive their finger through wet tissue paper.

for Stobart / Tinkler just read Branson
just doing whats needed to keep brand awareness alive

whilst were on the subject yes smaller firms have gone under
because the big guys have got in there
but look at the whole world and you’ll find in every sector
theres only about 6 companies that do it all from trucking, retailing, cars, construction or beer

At the end of the day, a job is a job…if any of these knockers were to find themselves unemployed one day but offered a job on Stobbies the next, would they refuse it, just because of the red/green uniform or to save face with their buddies? I think not. 30k is 30k, no matter who you are working for/what colours you are wearing/what your image is. Our uniform is blue, like it or lump it and the trucks are white, like it or lump it! Most of us wear it but some don’t. I do, not because i’m an arse creep but it is reasonably smart and its free! My lot have brought out endless companies over the years but it has gone un-noticed because we are not ‘general hauliers’ and maybe not ‘in the public eye’ as much…Stobarts do a delivery every every 4 minutes (iirc) which seems quite impressive. We do one every 90 seconds (approx). Bit different scenario i know but thats how it is. Back to ‘image’, i moan like a 5 year old if my liveried trailer is swapped for a dirty rental with torn/patched up curtains, simply because it looks tidy and not like some cowboy outfit! Red/green or yellow or blue or brown, whatever…the colour of the uniform is not important to me but the colour of money is!! I’m gonna run for the hills now and try to dodge the bullets on the way

Believe it or not I worked for Stobarts for 10 months, jacked in April crap job & company, back on the agency, never been happier. Stobarts is OK if you haven’t got a life or don’t like being at home with the missus & kids.
