Stobart plot thickens!

I imagine calling it Ed Stobart logistics rather than WS, would of confused the situation even more.

I find boss’s sons on the whole to be complete jumped up, full of their own perceived importance… [zb] s.
Handed a business on a plate, and usually have no concept of the real world, or ever had to do a proper job in their lives,.apart from the ‘token’ job of the type you mention to make them feel like ‘they’ve worked themselves up’…yeh right. :unamused:

I’ve worked for three companies where the bosses sons took it over.

Dolphin Restaurant in Bridlington - both their sons were in the kitchen from 10am-10pm 7 days a week from before Easter til after the end of summer grafting their arses off.

Nobles amusements. Both sons and daughter worked in the arcades every hour they were open and as they had arcades in several towns often travelled between them.

Beck Engineering. All four sons worked there. Three in the engineering department, one in the fibreglass one. The one in the fibreglass one was covered in resin and glass like the rest of us were in there, the lads in the engineering department worked as hard as everyone else in that department on machining.

Lastly at my last job one of our customers sons both worked at his father’s business as well as having one of his own and he must’ve been putting in 70/80hrs or more a week. In fact when you look at the whole amusement arcade sector which I know well both having been in it and having a friend who has his own, many of them are family businesses and the bosses sons are there like the boss working every hour their arcades are open.

Ok, but my opinion was based on what I have witnessed and experienced in transport firms inherited by sons of the original founder.
They usually come in with their own ideas, go on to practice all the negative and unpopular aspects of modern style management, including the creation and recruitment of non job types, resulting in a cluster ■■■■ of rules and regulations, turning a good job with a good firm to a mediocre or a rubbish one.
So many of the long term drivers leave, being replaced by a bunch of yes men and workers.

I’ve always found the same.
My uncle runs a haulage firm with artic and rigid tippers and he added “and son” to the company about a week after he was born! He’s worked there since he was old enough to use a broom then when he was old enough he got his class C and C+E and did tramping, weekends, nights, 3-4am starts, 14hr days, the lot because my uncle says “If he wants to run the business then he needs to know the business”.
To many build a business from scratch then when they retire their kin (who couldn’t find the yard without a sat nav) takes over and run it into the ground because rather than learn the business they’ve been away doing a pointless degree, trying about 150 different job types or “finding themself”

Still no word from Wincantons yet…

At least they have a year’s breathing room. Think it’s Wednesday for Wincanton to make a decision. Gonna be a big job turning things around though.

From the waste/corporate junk I’ve seen so far…

I’d have it done in a week [emoji849][emoji38]

Thank ■■■■ for that. Just got the job with them. Hopefully will have time to gain my experience.

Yeah, hopefully William Stobart will be able to perform his magic. If nothing else he’ll stop sending the motors out with mismatched panels from where they’ve been damaged. [emoji23]

I got offered a job and have a start date in a few weeks, I’ve been following the news closely and although I’ve been concerned I am confident things will be business as usual at least for another 12 months. From what i can tell the whole industry is struggling at the moment.

12 months is a bit of a push if they don’t have a fix for their debt and losses. Let’s hope William goes in with a massive axe getting rid of all the dead wood and pointless jobs, they may just survive then.

Yet reports are now saying
Haulage is 70k short of drivers across the industry so even if they did fold, we’d all be saved anyway [emoji849][emoji38]

Seems Wincanton have said “no thanks”

Who needs…

Fancy computer programmes to organise delivery runs when you can just pop balloons to see who goes where with what.

They have that in common with Eddie.

I wouldn’t mind betting Wincanton are already talking to Stobarts customers, ready for the big “pop”.

Had a job on Saturday to take a load from ES in Warrington to a retailer’s depot in Bradford. Turns out the customer wanted to get all their stock (5 loads for Friday and Saturday with a further 10 loads for this week) out of ES ASAP. No reasons were given and we don’t normally work for the customer.

Could be just black friday.
