Looking for a more recent reply as last post i found was dated 2015, i see they advertise the wages for trampers about 650ish take home, im wondering what is the office side to the job like (constant pressure/naggin) or do they let you just crack on? Also whats a usual finish time for a friday
not done it but looked into it money for 60 hours ia around 630 t/home but that includes meal allowence bonus and nights out an i think there planed by a w jenkinsons planers as its there work your doing
As stated above planned by Jenkies. Attitude depends on individual planner. I had a good one: never any hassle about timings etc. Next load was sent by text and you were left to get on with it. No one seemed to care what speed you worked at. Operations office were sound as well. Any issues with the wagon you just phone it into fleet and they’ll tell you where to go to get it dealt with. I did it LTD and cleared £790 for a 63 hour week so around £620 sounds about right for PAYE.All parking and expenses (tolls etc) were paid. Walking floors were easier work but Chipliner kept you fit. Typically ran in between 1500 and 1700 on a Friday running out of Lockerbie. It’s a decent job

Whats your thoughts on doing it for Jenks ?
better on there pay structure or hourly on stobarts ?
Know a couple of lads that have gone to Jenks.
Apparently they have opened a depot up locally.
Pay sounds about the same…maybe a round of drinks more(at Jenks)
I dont live to far away from either jenkies (runcorn) and stobarts (widnes) i guessed the pay would be similar, am i right in saying jenkies do a sun-thur tramp position? Aswell as the normal mon-fri?
Not sure.
My mates are on mon-fri

Pretty sure it worked out broadly similar. Heard full-timers with both saying they were going home with about £620/£630 per week.
There was some talk amongst Stobart drivers that the Jenkies drivers tended to get in earlier on a Friday and would get the better runs as they were pally with the planners but I’d take that with a pinch of salt tbh. I was on a Chipliner most of the time with Stobart and a relatively bad day (say three short loads of chip going under 50 miles into Egger Auchinleck for example) would usually be balanced out with a good one (eg a load of Insulation from Knauf St Helens for B&Q Aberdeen). Any given two days were rarely the same though.
One obvious difference was that Jenkies were running better kit. Typically Volvo FHs under three years old. Stobart were all 64/15 plate Scania R450s (although I’d guess these will Be due for updating soon) and the Chipliner trailers often had niggly issues like stiff runners on the pins and curtains or awkward roof sheets but you got used to it.
I did hear stories of pushy planners from drivers based in Runcorn but never encountered it myself.
I’m on with Jenks £600+ wee Nokia phone phone in when tipped next job trailer needs fixed call in at a depot tyres phone Bridgestone mostly Scanias (60/70%) rest Volvos b4 anyone asks driver turnover cause slot of drivers don’t like doing waste

Did Biomass out of Chelford, Sittingborne and Rugby on agency a couple of years back and It was them who prompted me to set up on my own! One of their planners told me that if I thought I could do better I should put my money where my mouth was, so I did.
Biomass is a misnomer. A good 60% of the walking floor work was bin waste and not pleasant at all. Planners were lazy, so at least they didn’t hassle you and the fleet department did, as said above, get things fixed fairly promptly but the H&S bollix was beyond stupid, the money not great and the same planner ran me out of hours Friday after Friday after Friday. Did a couple of weeks on a mega Chipliner out of Rugby. Week 1 I ripped off a landing leg because they sent me into a place with a steep drop off the weighbridge. Week 2 I tipped wood chip at Kronospan at Chirk, then they had me reloading out of there with no ratchet straps so I was made to go solo round to the local MAN dealer and buy ratchet straps out of my own money. I could claim it back but it took 2 weeks to arrive so I was about £200 down because the planners don’t give a ■■■■and cant be arsed to check if a wagon is equipped for a specific job.
As with any Stobart job, they don’t give a toss about the person driving. You are not a person to Stobarts, you are a replacable part and they will always find people clueless enough to replace you with.
Oh and don’t expect new kit. The office numpty at Chelford told me they keep all their tractors for at least five years, because a tag is more expensive than a pusher and they pay for an inverter so it has to work longer to make its money back.
Quite frankly it was the most pathetic excuse for a transport operation I have had the misfortune to work for.
