Stobart at it again!☹️

Just read that despite using subbies to pull trailers during this pandemic, Morrisons have done a deal with Stobart and got rid of Subbies!

Let’s all boycott Morrisons for shifting on their subbies at short notice!!

Stobart are a subbie. Paying only 1 invoice instead of many individual ones will save them a lot of time on admin. I’m not seeing the problem. Stobart will be losing work just like everyone else so if they can position themselves to keep their workforce employed then that’s a good thing. Business is business and it’s survival of the fittest in this recession/depression we’re entering.

Which depots are using Stobarts?

I believe nearly all Morrison’s depots are third party since Wincanton took over Northwich, Stockton and Wakefield last year.

They’ve had t/o at swan valley for a while , been pulling
Tris out of there for a while
Sittingbourne / gadbrook has had there tris dumped in
Arrival parking for a while

Except Stobart is anything but the fittest millions in debt only propped up by a massive loan and name changing shenanigans behind the scenes, a prime example of how not to run a business.

looking at it from stobrats viewpoint.
putting your trucks into one client and run them at a bigger loss than normal for as long as it takes to weather the storm over the next few months is better than firing them into 50 different clients.
they will plan the loss over several months against parking them up.
tough ■■■■■ for the subbys who would have been fighting for the scraps as usual as all they will do is the same to others to see of they can scrape by or get onto the dole.
id imagine the hgv insurance assessors will be another niche market that will be working overtime for the forseeable future.

Even more reason for them to grab what’s left of the rapidly diminishing work then in order to stay in business.

I’ve seen a lot of Morrisons trailers over this weekend being pulled by subbies that are NOT stobarts.
Even the usual Wigglesworth etc - seem to now be some other owner-driver firm that I’ve never heard of.

If anything, I’d argue that Stobarts have been cut out of the loop here?

The only Stobart trailer being pulled by a Stobart tractor I saw - was being pulled up by an unmarked police car on the A33 roundabout outside Reading… :unamused:

Been pulling loads out of swan valley for ages , stobarts have a t/o in one of them ,
Same as gadbrook & sittingbourne
At a guess the subbies being dropped are the ones
Who were took on when everyone emptied
The shelf’s of bog rolls a few weeks ago , now they’ve
Put limits on how many you can buy ,
The shelf’s are filling & morrisons don’t
Need those sunbbies anymore .
Nb we had loads of Morrison’s tris at Newark , and that’s been
Shut apx a year , so stobarts doing Morrison’s work
Is not a new thing
Christ chilled shut what 5 / 7 or what years ago and I was doing
Shop deliveries out of Kettering to Swadlincote store then for
Morrison’s

I was in Morrisons Wakefield at Junc 41 bus park last week.
A Stobarts tractor unit in the queue with us, but also 2 units from Maritime and a couple from smaller outfits who’s names I forget.
The Stobart guy was outnumbered…

Well it will just be a question of when, if they are pulling for Morrisons those double deckers and long trailers are bound to meet the odd mis-hap

What ever buisness your in it will be dog eat dog out there, and a lot of casualties to be expected. Unemployment will be high for a long while and some older workers probably won’t work again before retirement.

Yep. If the lockdown is lasting 3 to 6 months as mentioned on the news just now then a large number of us won’t have jobs to go back to. But if it saves just one life, then it’s got to be worth it, right? :unamused: After all, keeping people alive for as long as possible is more important than being able to eat, being able to keep our house, being able to see our family and being able to socialise as we were designed to do. None of that matters if we can save just one extra life.

Did surprise me that medical women basically
Saying 6 months

This is a tough world. We may blame Stobarts how about looking at the one who gave them the work.Maybe they were asked to take the contract. As pointed above by DD some one just thought guys lets just deal with one haulier and save on admin and cost. This is a national operators who can serve the whole country.

Jesus,
Only one bridge strike comment?

Can’t be right [emoji38][emoji38]
