I got another assesment this week. The drive is worrying me somewhat. I havnt driven class 1 for 2 years, I am trying to get a refresher before I go, but I heard that they use new scanias are these auto or semi auto?? Any advise would be welcome. I have been driving class 2 constantly for 3 years in total about 6weeks class 1 with an agency.

Half of Stobartās fleet are auto and the other half manual so itās a bit of hit and miss really however there are Stobart drivers on here who would be best suited to answering your question.
Being from the Wirral Iām guessing youāll be going to Widnes or Appleton? Both run Scanias. Opticruise is a piece of ā ā ā ā mate. On the right hand stalk is the gear selector. Twist it round to āAā and away you go. It has a clutch pedal but you only need to use it to get going or coming to a stop. Takes a bit of getting use to but itās easy enough. Just tell the driver trainer youāve never driven one before and heāll tell you. Thatās what I did when I had my assessment there a couple of years back.

thanks yes i am going to widnes on Tuesday. how hard was the assessment? cos i havnt driven class 1 for 2 years im a bit nervous. hopefully I can get a refresher tomorrow.
I passed my class 1&2 in 2007, never driven truck since.Tried a few places for work but with no experience never got a chance.Wife kids mortgage didnāt want to rely on agencies for regular income. So just gave up on it all. A couple of weeks ago filled an online application in for stobarts Widnes tesco depot. Didnāt think I would get anywhere, a couple of days later got a phone call from someone from stobarts asking what hours I was interested in. A bit taken aback I had to explain I hadnāt been driving lately and no experience. He replied not a problem, come for an assessment drive and go from there. Booked a three hour refresher drive and went last Monday to stobarts for the test. Must say I was very nervous but already working so nothing to loose. Told the assessor not been driving for awhile and never driven an auto box he told me how it worked said just drive around site first. Anyway he seemed happy enough so out the gate and off we go. Half an hour or so later came back pulled up alongside the row of trailers and reversed into gap in between. He says happy to tell you you passed so now onto the interview. Goes inside depot and told youve got the job. On Thursday this week start my two day induction and start proper next Monday. I know there a lot of people on here with bad things to say about stobarts and maybe not the best money in the world but it is a good start and once you get experience it should open a few more doors.

Fantastic did you have to do a written test before your drive?? if so what was it like?? I have done a 4 hour refresher today glad I done it really brushed off a few cobwebs.
Now i got the colly wobbles about tomorrow.
No I didnāt do a written test just the drive and the interview. Didnāt even feel like a formal interview really, more like a bit of a chat with the boss. Donāt panic just relax. I think stobarts are finding it hard to find new drivers so are takeing a chance on newbies. Good luck.
