It isn’t so much using the phone (one quick tap on the screen of a phone mounted close to the driver is less distracting than fiddling with the heater controls or radio for example - yes I know that it is illegal), but the issue is being distracted by it. Much more than a quick tap and you’re then completely distracted
You can learn to multi task and prioritise (just ask an instrument rated pilot) but there is no good reason for it whilst driving. Added to which drivers are not trained to do it.
Scrolling a dating site is however, an absolute none starter. A disgraceful thing to be doing whilst driving.
Added to which, no potential date is going to be impressed by a CV that includes causing death by dangerous driving…
His actions were pre meditated too might swing a bit more against him.

, you could maybe say that the killer drivers actions were premeditated , cos its well documented what can happen when driving on the phone , especially when he was on some dating site for a long time , 40 min or so, could he not have waited ?, i wonder what state of arousal he was in when he crashed ?, ■■■ w#nker .
Multi-tasking: how to ■■■■ up multiple things at the same time.
Not necessarily.
Pilots and musicians wouldn’t exist to name but two if that were always the case…

I disagree.
Pilots are concentrating on flying planes. They are indeed using many different senses and looking at many different issues. Height, speed, weather, route, time, fuel. But they have only one main task: flying.
To drive well, we need to be aware of our route, and what lane to be in at the next junction, whether that car hanging around in the outside lane is about cut in on us, whether need to pull out soon if there is a hill and that tipper in front has a habit of wallowing over the bumps.
We are doing many things, but all are necessary and are driving related.
There have been multiple studies about multi-tasking, I haven`t seen any that show it in a good light.
Some persons say it is a good thing, few (any?) show proof of such.

One was in England, the other in Scotland, two different legal systems, and Scotland is always tougher on vehicle related offences than England, eg there are no Speed Awareness courses in Scotland.

Clearly you have never flown a plane in instrumentental meteorological conditions. There are far more things to think about than just keeping the aircraft in the air, especially for a single pilot operation. Flying, navigating, communications, monitoring the aircraft systems and keeping a lookout is definitely multi tasking. I’m not saying it’s a good idea in a car or truck. Just that it is possible. If you’ve ever been in a plane you are still alive because the pilots have achieved a very high level of skill multi tasking. It is particularly at a high leve if anything should go wrong.
Likewise, a musician has many individual strands to think about. Just because it is best to avoid it where possible, doesn’t mean it isn’t possible.

The full programme needs to be a compulsory part of the DCPC. It should also be part of the driving licence application process for all classes of vehicle.

I agree I think we should have monthly videos of at least two hours long that we should be made to watch. What we really need is more safety awareness videos especially in relation to mobile phone use because I NEVER SEE this ANYWHERE.
Be careful what you wish for.The fact is the government is going to use ‘things like this’ as a false flag pretext to effectively impose a murder penalty, or a GBH with intent penalty, for being involved in a traffic accident.Bearing in mind that it’s also possible that you could even be wrongly held to blame for it.
