Not sure if it’s the area Sunderland/Durham/Newcastle but having my licence a number of years, still finding it hard for people to take me on due to lack of experience.
The latest hurdle being the CPC thats coming in and having to fork out even more money.
Is it just me or is this common for drivers trying to get in to driving?
Latest job I applied for was driving 20 tonne tippers but they oooo’d and rrr’d about me only driving 7.5 tonners.
Not sure if my sp30 and 3 points in November 2010 is a major put off
Im in Scotland and only passed my test in November, just started driving tankers for a company just along the road from where I live. They are desperate for drivers at the moment because the area is a bit out in the sticks. It is just a case of getting out and going around all the haulage companies with a high viz jacket and a handfull of CV’s, getting your face known and keep pestering them.
I’m just north of Newcastle and registered with three agencies, I thought I would have been busy this close to Christmas, got one shift today nothing last week and nothing planned for the rest of this week. On the plus side I’ve got a start full time in January.
I very much doubt the sp30 will have anything to do with it. Most companies overlook minor infringements. How old are you? Sometimes that’s an issue for some companies. And if you don’t have CPC yet I’d suggest getting it as it’s going to be compulsory by Sept and most companies are asking for it now.
