Still enjoy the job?

I don’t know about anybody else but I get sick of people slagging the job off, sure there are aspects that we can all do without but that’s true in any profession . I enjoy my job and I wonder how many lads and lasses enjoy theirs.

Love mine giffnick.
Lefts stobarts after 5yrs last August and eventually it was the best move I made, had a crappy job for 3 mths till I got a call out of the blue for this firm I’m on with now.
Out of the 35 interviewed I got the job and absolutely love it.
Moneys good, tackle is bang on and I never hear from the office, one call a day if I’m lucky, most of the blokes are great and the work is very clean and at least I’m going back over the water now, something Esl wouldn’t let me do.
No,there’s worse jobs out there,my office window changes by the minute and for that I’m truelly thankful,I just stay away from the moaners,as if I listen to them too much I start thinking like them and getting down!
No,here on planet Jase, everything’s great lol!
Must go,just heading for the channel tunnel now and away from the UK for a day,yoo HOO lol!!

Good on yer mate fill your boots

I love mine as well, good bunch and interesting work , I also get to see Europe on a regular basis & am left on my own without any chop chop phone calls.
I think the moaners just moan cos they have always moaned & will never change cos that’s wot they do

Isn’t that the truth, every yard has them the glass half empty crew.

I’ve worked with them over the years and like you do my best to avoid them, you see them out the corner of your eye making a shuffling depressed bee line for you and your heart just sinks.

There’s about half a dozen that stand out in my poor memory over the years, if you paid 'em a £thousand a week to lie in bed they’d still find something to moan about, still doing the job they hate after umpteen years.

Me i’m as happy a pig in the mire, very good company to work for respect both ways, so long as you do your job properly they never bother you, good salaried package short hours good work and equipment home every night, what else does a man want.

Good post!

After years of hating getting up for work and worrying about every day, I now enjoy every day I go to work. After being a meter reader for Severn Trent, this jobs a dream
Granted there’s bad days when nothing goes right but I just sit back and let the moaners get on with it. It’s not worth making yourself feel ill.

I’ve got a great boss who lets you get on with it and the work is varied and interesting.

Some weeks ill be home every night, or like last week I could be round Scotland all week.

Suits me perfectly

I’ve never “enjoyed” any job, to me it’s just a necessity… no work, no money!

Maybe I’m just naturallly bone idle  but as I get older I find myself thinking “there has to be more to life than this” more often. I’ve got loads of stuff I’d rather be doing & if a got a modest lottery win (£500000 ish, don’t need millions) I’d quit in a heartbeat knowing that I could live comfortably & spend my time doing what I want to do for a change.

Love it me, so simple! No outside interference, week of days, week of nights and home everynight, the pays good and get to do my hobbies as well! :sunglasses: DCPC, might retire soon, might not! it’s not hard, tacho in, drive, break and drive home again! Simples :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

I love the job I’m doing now, probably more so because I thought I coudn’t adjust to driving anything without a tipper. The other week I was meant to be drivers’ mate on our Bournemouth route. This only goes once a fortnight instead of weekly, so is usually loaded to the back doors. Driver didn’t turn in and instead of refusing to do it alone (it’s a long day with two of you) I went out alone and got on with it. I had to bring some loads back (missed delivery times and a couple were taken off by office) and I even offered to do a nightout so’s not to bring stuff back. In the end I did 15.5 hours duty time (I know) and never complained. I certainly got job satisfaction knowing I’d gone out and done a 2 man job on my own knowing it’s a hard run at the best of times.
Devon and Dorset tomorrow, on my own…

Think a lot depends on how long you have done it, most of the older ones on here remember when it REALLY was a good job and tend to compare it with all the BS we have to put up with today, and how much the pay has gone down in line to living costs. After saying that I have had jobs in the last 10yrs that I have enjoyed, where as now the firm I work for look upon their drivers as a necessary evil and are basically greedy ■■■■■■■■■ I no longer put in long hours for a good wage but for a living wage, and I am on less money than I was on 12 yrs ago, but at least I am in work and I suppose it is a similar situation in some other industries also, but if you lads have a good firm that looks after you and you enjoy it fair play to you.

I still love the job, just can’t wait to get back and get going again, I am lucky just get told whats on for the day most times and left to get on with it. most times I have to phone to chase them for my next job :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Don’t forget, we are lorry drivers, (or truckers, steering wheel attendants, professional drivers, camions or whatever you want to call yourself). As such we are genetically driven to moan and whinge :smiling_imp:
robroy makes a valid point, a lot of us old 'uns (God, that’s a depressing thought  ) DO remember when the money was better (comparatively), there was less pressure, less bull droppings, and we weren’t treated like brainless scum, but that’s the job nowadays for the majority in this industry. Having said that, I still enjoy the work :sunglasses: Just not so keen on the paypacket
Safe driving, all.

Some great posts ,keep them coming good to hear there are jobs out there that are still good! And they’ll always be moaners but it always makes be wonder why not do something that makes them happy (yes I know its not that easy) and the grass is always greener on the other side, til you get there and find out its astroturf!

Simple answer to that mate, after doing it since 1979 I know nothing else, and after all that time would probs find it hard to adapt if I did…And as I’ve said on here before I enjoy moaning  …and it becomes natural after a few years on the job so prepare yourself

I like my job, not the best money but it doesn’t feel like im working as I do a 4 on 4 off night shift. Only gripe is they never pay my overtime, still due some from December! Its easy work though and no pressure to rush it, though the earlier I finish the earlier I go home.
But there are some right moody ones there though.

How very true that’s just what I think.

i love the job, tramping all week, see all four corners of the country, company leave you to it and dont bother you as long as you do the job and dont take the p–s such as going an hour and half down road then parking up for an hours kip! I take home a deacent enough wage to live off each month. I’ve been with the company im with now 6 year the works great and varied, good tackle(just got 30 new slideing roof trailers) also do flatwork, love my own space and being able to listen to what i want on the radio and not have to put up with workforce crank or gaffer in my lug hole every 5mins but i also love meeting new people everyday and like to have a good crack with the lads i meet on sites, builders yards, other drivers etc. Yes you have bad days but does’nt every job? I find the good days far outweigh the bad and there is no finer job in my eyes than ours when the suns out, window down some great music blasting out the radio and driving over say the A66 at Stainmoor Cafe looking over that fantastic view towards the lake district or any other similer road in this country. You dont get that sat in an office or on a production line. I’ve been off work since January 4th with retinal tears in both eyes and a detached retina in my right eye, i was weeks away from going blind and all i was suffering from were floaters in my eyes and some blurred vision. If my girlfriend didn’t force me to go to the opticions(spelt wrong i know) who then refered me to the hospital for an emergency op i would now be blind in both eyes. I have to have another op then hopefully i can return to work and it cant come quck enough if i’m honest. sorry if the thread went on a bit folks!

An old gaffer of mine always used to say that the time for any haulier to start worrying is when your drivers STOP moaning!

I thought that maybe the rose tinted shades would’ve faded by now. Not a chance, beats pushing buttons in a factory/office, get to see the country for free and summers coming where the tops get lower and the skirts get higher
