I read often about it,about Fines regarding not holding it safe and lots other Thing.
Lorries have Power Steering and that why it will break your Hands if you run in Kerbs that hard that you the Steering not could hold with normal gripp.
In normal case you dont need to Panik, and think, the Person who tells you how to hold a Steering wheel has mostly not much Clue about driving HGVs in hard Competition.
But that means not you can keep the Hands of the Wheel.
Just saying,if a Front wheel blows away you not holding the Lorry on line with more Pressure on the wheel.just with quickness to steer against every side move of front axle helps.
Pay close attention to how rally drivers hold the steering wheel.
Very few will have their thumbs around the wheel. Them that do haven’t had their thumbs broken.
Yet.
I was taught to keep your thumbs out.It goes back to when wagons didn’t have power steering, believe me if you hit the kerb or got in a rut the wheel would whip round and you couldn’t stop it with a hard ■■■■!
With power steering it isn’t so essential although you still can spot a few dicks behind the wheel if look.
first thing I drove was an old massey ferguson 35 tractor, no power steering and if one of those narrow front wheels hit a rut it’d whip round and dislocate your thumb, soon learned to keep your thumbs out the way
Hiya …i was tipping a load of wet brewers grains on a farm nr bideford one day. the yard was a
wash with cowmuck as the farmer was cleaning out a shed. i was reversing my S39 (no power steering)
through this green sludge into a huge shed. it was great as the yard was very slippy you could turn the
steering very easy. the next minute whoosh a front wheel had slipped into a submerged gully/grid… the lock
went from full left to right and back again, i had weight on the wheel as my head was out of the window.
my hand went into the wheel, as it spun a spoke hit the back of my hand CRUNCH four broken bones
in my hand. it blew up like a baloon within a second… the hospital said nothing we can do untill it goes down.
that was a fair hike from bideford to stoke in a foden and a smashed hand… waited a day for it to go down
abit then got plasered for 6 weeks.
silly John

i read somewhere that power steering makes it worse if your wheels decide to turn fast as there is little pressure to stop them so the steering wheel will whip round and break your thumbs
I find it is safer to steer with your knees, as well as allowing you to roll a ■■■ on the move.

provided you keep your fingers outside of the wheel that is
