Who,s hauling this CHEAP steel from CHINA?
Probably same people who carried imported coal till they killed the mining industry
Or to look at it another way the government is allowing our foreign competitors to put us out of the frame by way of buy out and closure.

I’m no financial expert but I see the UK just importing every commodity in the future, the other worrying trend is the oil refineries in the UK the elf refinery closed and last year in Milford due to over supply it is now a import terminal and not a refinery I see more refineries closing and just import terminals being built and bringing fuel in by ships.
The UK is about to lose its last LNG refinery in the UK at avonmouth in March where gas is turned into liquid and stored for peak winter months when supplies are low, there where 4 refineries back 10years ago refinering natural gas now we are going be relying on imports for all our gas,
Welcome to the European folks,
Happy sole:

More to the point…who’s buying this cheap chinese steel ? or cheaper russian steel, or taiwanese steel, or brazilian steel ? Oh, that’ll be the customer, just like you and I buy imported goods which are often cheaper and better suited to our needs…
In fact you’d be shocked if you knew who buys chinese steel.
Personally I can’t see the government letting steel production in the UK end… all down to politics and the G7 G8 G20 malarky… …
China flooded the market when they dumped all their stock. A lot of it is being used in Africa where China are investing billions, why bother buying higher priced resources when you can get lower grade stuff at much, much lower prices. Same with oil, I read today on the BBC that Iran are ramping up production again saying they want to go from 2.8 million barrels a day to 4.8 million barrels a day. This is coming hot on the heels of Brent Crude being at $35 a barrel! Saudi are maintaining its 10 million barrels a day production rate and to make the situation even worse, rumours are flying around that US is going to start exporting again!

Nowhere near London so Cameron’s gang wont give a t0ss if it shuts.
Light at the end of the tunnel?
Tata are losing £1 million a day ,plus the new buyer has to take on the pension blackhole.

The last few weeks we have been delivering loads of clean incinerator scrap from around S.Yorkshire to Port Talbot. First deliveries since around Sept/Oct. So they are still going.
The biggest issue I feel is the canteen on site has moved from proper plates and cutlery to paper plates and plastic cutlery. Probably melted the silverware.
Tata own PortTalbot and Landrover.
Where does Landrover get its steel from?

Probably WS Transportation aka Stobart. [emoji13][emoji13]
Everyone harps on about dumped steel , which is being done by China and various countries , dumping to my mind means steel being stored ( dumped ) at a stockists store until sold to someone in this country . Surely the real enemies of the steel makers in this country are customers buying this imported steel not the foreign steel makers . On the other hand if you or I walk into a car showroom and view a car we wish buy and place a order , and the salesman tell us that you can have this car at say £15.000 built with British produced steel , but if he then tells you can have exactly the same car built with imported steel at £11.000 , which one would you buy .?

You buy the £11,000 car. Then you find out that you’ve been made redundant because of the knock on effects on supplying dependent industries and/or lost spending power in the economy in general caused by the loss of the domestic steel industry.
