Starting new job tomorrow

So tomorrow I am going back to my routes as I think it is the only thing that’s going to make me happy again. Forget the money, i want to drive again.

I start at a company called PA Wrights driving an 8 wheeler. Yes, it’s a tipper. It is hourly pay and I also have my loading shovel and 360 excavator CPCS tickets of which all will be integrated with the job.

Very excited about this, but as I am sure you good folk will understand I am very nervous. I know how to operate the tipping controls and twist locks etc, but I was hoping maybe some of you great people here could give me some pointers to stop me going wrong. The very last thing I want or need is to break the law or cause injury to somebody or myself.

This will indeed be the first time I have used my Digi-Card but from what I learned in my last CPC course I think I am competent on the do’s and don’ts.

Any advice greatly appreciated, hope you all have a nice Sunday evening, the weather here in Birmingham is tropical

Take care all.

Tom

If you’ve never used a digi before have a play on that link matey

Have a look on youtube ,there you will find tutorials about using your digi tacho. It is quite simple really ,just remember not to throw it out of the cab window.Tell us more about the type of work that you will be doing. I am sure that the relevant info. will come thick and fast. :stuck_out_tongue:

Many thanks for your kind replies gents,

I’ll let you know how I get on, in the meantime I will have a play on that link to make sure I get it right. God knows I could do without infringements :unamused:

I am only used to the old charts

Really looking forward to driving a nice modern lorry.

As for the relevant info, the job entails moving bio solid “cake” from Severn Trent’s sewage treatment site in Minworth, Sutton Coldfield.

You load the truck with the loading shovel to it’s relevant weight and then go and tip it on a farmers’ land where it is stockpiled until they need to muckspread onto upward growing crops.

Not sure how many trips per day but I have been assured there is no rush per say as it’s paid hourly and they like to keep their status in the green.

From what I have seen they mainly use Scania P340’s but I could be mistaken.

The trucks have scales and audible alarms to let you know when you are approaching the weight limit. I think there may be nights out involved but I am keen and willing (for now  )

Probably worth finding out how many runs others are doing, it wouldn’t be appreciated by the others if you do 2/3 more runs per day, you should be the slowest to start off and pick up after a couple of weeks to be Mr Average.

I drove a P340 for quite a while. Whilst they’re a nice drive they’re greatly under powered for that job. What type of tipper is it? Roro, skelly or traditional tipper? I’ve been in this line of work for 11 years so feel free to pick my grey matter.

Tony.

Those must be the Blue cabbed scanias with bulk tipping bodies I see about , tidy looking motors . Sounds like a decent enough job
