Started my class c training..passed thanks to flair training

Well it’s been a long wait but it’s here at last, I start my class c training on Friday with test next Thursday. But it is just my luck , have you seen weather forecast , I knew the snow was waiting for me .
I am surprised because I am feeling ok about it, done as much prep as I think I can possibly do in a car, only thing is I have been driving automatic for last 3 years but when I get in my children’s cars the clutch and gears soon get back into my head so it shouldn’t be a problem. So just need a pass then I can arrange dates for class c+e with John @ flair still can’t get over being picked

Anyway will post how its going etc

Tell them ROG says Hi

How well do you know Leicester ?

Will do rog, to honest I would say my knowledge of Leicester is low to medium but have to say it is the same for all my surrounding towns anyway , would have been a dream to take test in newark but no chance when we can’t even keep our a & e, but that aside the way I look at it is when driving there will be loads of places that I don’t know from Adam.

On the plus side Loughborough / Leicester is the quickest and easiest daily commute since new dual carriageway was built from newark

Did my C with a1/hughes based out of Weedon.
Didn’t go Leicester though (thankfully).
Enjoyed the training and passed first time with them.
Good luck with yours.

Well first days training went ok, seemed to struggle at first with 4 over 4 gearbox but by the end of the day it was easier.

Started the day with some reversing practice, after watching my fellow trainee a few times , it was my turn first few did it ok after finding my marker and using a shunt and final couple of goes managed it without a shunt.

On my drives I found the corners a little tricky at first but soon found the right lines to take and sorted that.

The main issue is getting into a muddle with the gears but am trying to slow it all down and then sort what gear to be in instead of trying to do it all at once.

So here’s hoping snow holds off next week and test doesn’t get cancelled, I am looking forward to Monday.

Sounds like a normal first day of training

You will be surprised as to how much you assimilate whilst sleeping

Expect the training dip where you totally forget how to drive about day 3 !! … but it does come back after a sleep

Day 2,

Well in the morning practiced reversing exercise again and was happy with that, then had first drive into Leicester to the test centre , that drive went really well, was really pleased, was slowing down at junctions and roundabouts getting gears right just a bit to slower than normal but trainer put that down to not knowing the routes well.

Then the afternoons drive went awfull , went to pieces was making stupid mistakes (gears, indicators, handbrake) although didn’t clip any curbs or anything felt really low, felt like my head was about to explode with to much info, trying to remember what I am being told about the routes and landmarks etc and then trying to take instructions in as well, all in all came home thinking if I pass it will be a miracle, really hope tomorrows better. Oh by the way tommorow straight into driving as instructer put it , intensive

I said to watch the dip !!

Looks like you have had it early

Now sleep it off

Cheers rog.

God I hope it was my dip and it doesn’t carry on , have even tried to look on google earth and try and retrace my steps , have found the low bridge bit where examiner will take you and expect you to turn left off your own back but can’t find the funny looking house where if you turn right it leads to the only bus lane that you can drive in, any ideas what road that is on rog lol

Was too tired last night to post

Day 3
Today went a lot better , I am getting better with my gears and also am slowing my approach down, only thing is with driving an automatic for 3 years I sometimes am forgetting my handbrake at lights

Day 4

Today was really good it all seems to be coming together, trainer says my driving and positioning etc has really come on , on the afternoon drive fluffed my approach onto the 1st roundabout thinking I had handbrake on when I didn’t which resulted in me forgetting to indicate off the roundabout, after that the drive wasn’t too bad but I am still sometimes forgetting handbrake at lights , oh and we also worked on mirrors today too

I think I am trying to think too much at the junctions instead of letting it become 2nd nature and that is why I am making silly mistakes like forgetting the handbrake

Anyway test at 13.45 so have got the morning to iron everything out

I said you would sleep it off

Just a point I have noticed. Unless you are a long way back in the queue or on a hill start, the handbrake isn’t required at junctions etc (unless things have changed recently).

Best of luck for your test tomorrow.

That’s just what I was thinking. Unless you really ■■■■ up by rolling back or sitting for ever on the footbrake, there’s nothing to worry about.

All the best for your test, Pete

Thanks dar1976 and pete, that helps a lot thanks.

Getting well nervous now

I think the general unwritten rule regarding using footbrake instead of handbrake when waiting is about 2 to 3 seconds

Good luck with the test! If you plan on staying stationary for any length of time then put the handbrake on. I did it most times even at junctions, you can either roll back and fail or put it on to be safe.

Multiply by 5 or even 10. Over application of the park brake can cause more problems than a few.

I cant recall ever having a fail because of park brake not being used and I have a very relaxed attitude to it.
