Started C+E, almost

I had an assessment at Tockwith Training on tuesday, Mike put me at ease very quickly, Had a go at the reverse OMG, how the hell do I do that on my own, the body of my ‘rigid’ disappeared from one mirror and filled the other, that was a huge smack in the mouth reminder of what I’m doing :open_mouth: , I got it in the garage with a lot of prompting and a shunt, then went around a few lanes, did a powerslide, not intentionally of course  , That ■■■■■■■ 12 litre is a beast compared to my glorified puddle jumper, loved it so much I’m gonna stick my money where my mouth is.

Just a couple of questions for now, there’ll be many more I’m sure

What’s the difference of holding the handbrake on ‘half hold’ as oppose to fully engaged? Mike mentioned something about spring brakes but I didn’t catch all of it. I’m guessing less air is dumped & quicker to release on ‘half hold’.

I got in a bit of a tizzy at one point, on a r/b, 2 lane approach, I was on the centre white line going left, waiting for a gap in traffic and suddenly there’s another artic at the side of me pretty close, I trusted Mike when he said go, but I did wonder about the rear swing (tandem axle trailer), bearing in mind I’ve been fearful of rear swing since I wrote off a MPV in my early rigid days, even more so when I couldn’t see the back end. Is there any method to deal with judging it or is it one of those things I’ll pick up?

You’ll be okay using Tockwith driver training.
