Start times

I was told yesterday I was starting at 4am, at interview we agreed 6am or later with the odd exception however I was running back to the yard that night so it would be 9 off at base and I refused which didn’t go down well. I’ve just finished my second week
I was honest though, said I don’t want to let them down by not getting up and doing my shift so I ended up on 3 crap jobs an hour from base that took 6am to 7pm and 3 mins over a 4.5(Friday rules :sunglasses: ) to get done. I did say today I could of ran with that load last night and got up close to delivery without a 3am alarm and the job would of still been done. The planners/managers sometimes really are so short sighted and don’t use the drivers to their potential because they’re too wrapped up in them :unamused:

Well they saved money on a night out. And it’s ok to break the rules because it’s a Friday? Sometimes drivers are too short sighted and wrapped up in themselves.

i don’t think 3-4 minutes over a 4.5 is really breaking the rules ffs I wasn’t gonna sit outside the gate for half hour on a Friday

I think you’ll find it is. Go tell that to a VOSA officer and see how they react.

Wow 7am? So you worked a full day at half the pay of a night driver and had to put up with at least 50x more numpties on the road than a night driver would encounter?

You night guys are welcome to whatever premiums you get for the hours you work. I did nights for a while, kidded myself I preferred it at first (“the roads are quieter” etc…), but in the end the loneliness and complete lack of a decent social life & time with the missus depressed me (and her) & I took a pay cut to go back into a day job. It certainly didn’t half my wages though.

I’ll take traffic jams over depression thanks!

Long term night shift guys statistically die younger than their day shift counterparts aswell.

Sweet mercy. You’d have been better off just taking your card out. They can’t prove anything if there’s no record, but they can prove you broke the law, because it’s recorded.

If your start time is 0000-0300.What kind of start times would you expect?

:open_mouth: :open_mouth:

As already posted, if I was daft enough to take a job with start times between 0000-0300, then I would expect so start work between 0000-0300.

I worded it wrong are you too thick to not see that!

Then he spills the truth… £10 an hour. [CRYING LAUGHING FACE]

I think the lack of sunlight and vitamin D is affecting some of these guys.

Not everyone is lucky enough to live in the Midlands.

Yeah it is and done regularly could see you in trouble with the TC. And unless you drive around the yard and fuel up and park up your wagon without a card in you’re going to be a whole lot more over 3 to 4 minutes because when you hit that 4.5hrs it isn’t just the driving time that counts for how much you’ve gone over without a break, its work time as well. So if you drive 4hrs 31 minutes then spend 10 minutes fuelling up before sticking it on break you’ve not exceeded when you should have taken a break by 1 minute but by 11 minutes.

I’ll have to put my hand up and admit to being thick as well - I can’t see what your point is either. Your start time is somewhere between midnight and 3am, so surely that’s what you would expect?

The old ‘that’s not what I meant!’ trick, beloved of those who ask a question and then don’t get the answers that they were hoping for.

Try a bit harder to word it right, you ■■■■■■■ thick ■■■■■
