Start of training (Cat C) Northampton

Oh, and summerley82. Good luck on your test.

Remember, patience is your friend on that Arlestone/top hat roundabout! “Better to take a Minor for a hesitation than a serious for cutting somone up” as my instructor used to say. Also remember, just after the M1 roundabout theres a layby on the left, if he pulls you over there on your test (like I did on my C+E test) remember theres a faded bus stop in the middle of the layby that you don’t wanna be stopping on.

Thanks for that, I went to pull out today on a taxi as thought he was going off but didn’t and straight away I thought “id rather him mark me down for hesitating than making the guy stop” so will keep that in my head

All coming together. Well Done. Sounds like you will have no problems on Tuesday.

I don’t really know the roads around there but if the bus lanes are made wide enough for buses then there should be plenty of room for a lorry too (I would have thought)

Thanks mate and yeah they are wide enough but at places it gets tight and because so knob is sitting next to you its hard to edge over and the guy today was matching my speed no matter what I did! Still, just hope that don’t happen on my test

Nice one for today sounds like its all coming together , relax over the weekend try not to overthink everything and then on monday tune up for that pass on Tuesday

all the best

Last one of the week and it went great again, started with the reverse and went nice and smooth.
Found that i was checking the mirrors without having to remind myself so that was good. Had a few runs in town, grazed a kurb on a roundabout, really ■■■■■■ me off but did the same place a couple more times and by slowing down and giving myself enough time/room it went through a treat
The other issue i had was with idiots staying next to me when i was in the bus lane, going along at 30mph and it gets a little tight and they wont fall back or go past they just sit there so i edge over a little as getting close to the kurb and they dont respond…they just match my speed even when i drop 5-10 mph off? Crazy. I think i should put my offside wheel OVER the white line as to block the road off (as you do when going in to tightish roundabout) but i know it will more than likely get me a minor or even major so not gonna.
last day Monday then test Tuesday 9:45, another lad has his before so we need to be there early.
I think it will go ok but you never know!!
Thanks everyone for the advice/responses

Best of luck with the test, I remember the examiner saying to me when I passed both of mine that guys trained by LGV Trainers usually do pretty well.

What I remember most from the tests is that alot of it is about attitude. You can drive it, the examiner knows this or else you wouldn’t be in for the test, you need to demonstate that you can read situations and that you can deal with them in the correct manner. The way you handle something is what can make the difference between a minor and a serious. Do the reverse, get your head in the right place and everything else should come along naturally . It takes 15-20 minutes from the test center to town, plus 15-20 minutes back so you only have to deal with the town for about 20 minutes, including your uphill and downhill starts. Here’s hoping you have a pleasant ride in the passenger seat back to Brackmills!

Thanks mate, will be trying not to look at the clock or the examiner the whole test, gonna try to just drive and not think too much about him watching my every move, just concentrate on the people around me etc
And yeah it will be a good trip back to Brackmills or i will be very cross with myself to say the least!!

After a rubbish w.end (head gasket going on my motor) i have had an ok last day, i have picked up a bad habit of indicating and looking at the same time instead of looking first?! God knows why i have started doing that but its annoying as did it 30 odd times today!
Still, test tomorrow (945 i think) so will see how it goes. After the w.end i have had i really dont expect it to go well

All you can do is give it your best, just remember that if you do make a mistake put it to the back of your mind and carry on. The examiner is human and will be looking at your overall drive.

Just give the examiner a good drive for that hour and you will have it in the bag. Good luck.

Best of luck for tomorrow!

i was promised brand new trucks to train in when we paid for the course through pathways i ended up in wigan driving a battered old volve fl10 which didnt go into 5th unless it had warmed up which always helps when your learning that was in 2009.Then i went to a place in bolton and they had a fleet of man trucks no older than 3 year old which felt amazeing

Passed it! Just 2 minors, 1 as some ■■■ committed to the exit so i pulled out then he comes back out and I’m well in the roundabout, can see his point, the other was speed. Sat a little under 50 so earnt a minor there also, strict but fair. Very happy and thanks for all the advice it was a big help.

Well done !!! did the other chap before you pass ?

summerley82:
