Start of the learning curve

Nice post A1ex - great to have the links to the actual roads! Makes a real difference - and well navigated!

A1ex:
A bit of preparation and google maps/streetmap go a long way to reduce drivers anxiety syndrome imho.

I agree with that, I check out every drop on google earth to see where it is and the best way to approach it so I dont have to do any blindside reverses and then I set up my sat nav so it takes me the way I want to go and not the way it wants to go.

The AA Truckers Atlas is an invaluable tool for finding your way round, low bridges and weight limits etc but im afraid theres no substitute for experience. You will get lost and you will end up in sticky situations. When I first got my class 1 i ended up driving through residential streets in the middle of hounslow in an artic with a 16 foot double deck trailer :open_mouth: Personally, i would echo whats already been said and say if it looks dodgy, get out and look ar avoid it and stick to the main carriageways,. Most sat navs will try and cut corners in order to reach a main road which youll eventually reach by sticking to the main roads youre already on

It’s not height, weight etc that’s the problem really, I went through some tight streets yesterday that an artic wouldn’t have made it through

Are you sure. Ive only been driving an artic for a week and ive already been through and reversed into a couple of places that would have been more difficult in a 26t rigid. Infact I have even been to the same garden centre in an artic that I used to deliver tiles to in the same yard and it was much easier than before.

Firstly, well done on the pass  welcome to the Billy Big Wheels Gang

I’m a bit long in the tooth for all this sat nav & google earth stuff, but if it works for you, then that’s fine, but even the best sat nav is only as good as the info you put into it, so in a case like yours the best thing to do is to ask the office for the correct address, not just the post code, as has been said, that could be the admin address & could well be close to the delivery point, but accessed by a route that doesn’t involve the office wallahs interacting with us peasants in our smelly lorries.

A little tip for you, if you’re going to an unfamiliar place & your sat nav tells you to take a road that looks a bit iffy, look at the road surface, if it’s got tyre tracks from lorries that have made the turn into it then it’s probably the right way, if it looks like a lorry has never been down it, keep on going

Oh & don’t be tempted to follow a M&S (or whoever) lorry into the depot, he may not be going back to base, I did this when looking for a small brewery in Wiltshire, I saw one of their drays pulling away from a pub & followed him for about 20mins down some really tight little lanes until he pulled up outside a boozer, I asked him where the brewery was & he told me it was behind the pub he pulled away from when I started following him

no suprise you hadnt been given the right address
how often are we
10% at max
even if address seems right there will be a sting in the tail
you arrive at location on paperwork
and find the truck access to the premises is down the road you have just past
but your stupid cos your company comes here every week and you should know
